I have already been to 2 surgeons - Dr. Burry in Evansville and Dr. Weiss in Georgetown. Dr. Burry requires all of his patients to have an EGD but my insurance would not cover it. Dr Weiss will not do the bypass on me because I have asthma and have had to be on prednisone in the past. They said if I had to go on it in the future then it would increase my chances of getting an ulcer. He said he would do the band though but I don't think my insurance covers it. Ive already had everything done - psych. eval., nutritionist, pulmonary function tests, heart tests, labs, seminars, etc... Just need to find someone to do surgery on me. My insurance has already approved the bypass!! If I have to look for another surgeon, I am considering Dr. Husted in Nashville, TN. That is who my pulmonologist prefers or I've thought about Dr. Bolar in Lexington, KY. Does anyone know anything about these surgeons and what experience they have? My pulmonologist wants me to have it done somewhere where there are other pulmonologists available in case I will need one. My asthma is very complicated and can get worse in a short period of time. It's always been that way. I am pretty stable for the time being. I know I can't be the only one out there with asthma problems like this and have to take prednisone when it's worse. I'm trying to find someone with any input or experience with the same situation I'm in. I don't care to have the band done either, if only my insurance covers it. Amy Stanley

Amy, I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Dr. Bolar and his practice. But I personally have no experience with him or his practice. Word of mouth is that he is top-notch tho...I can tell you from firsthand experience that Dr Husted is AMAZING!! Go to his website and read the stories his patients have written..search the msg board and you will find people like you on there. I remember Kathy harris (she had a story on DiscoveryHealth about her DS juorney) had terrible breathing problems and you should see her now!!! I did not have asthma, but I have no doubt Dr Husted would be able to help. Best of luck in whateveer you decide Donna

I also had my surgery with Dr. Husted's office and was extremely pleased. I had not been officially diagnosed with asthma, but my breathing was extremely difficult because of the fat. They told me that they were somewhat concerned about it and would be monitoring it extremely closely. No problems developed, and now that I have lost so much weight, I have no breathing problems at all.

Dr. Husted is a highly skilled surgeon, who not only does WLs bt is a revision specialist as wel. (WLS revisions are *much* more complicated and risky than the original WLS is.) He also does the DS, the *best* form of WLS. (Yeah, I'm probably biased---but living with the DS this past year has taught *me* that no other form of WLS would have made me happy.) While I was in the hospital following my DS, I was seen daily by a pulmonologist---just part of their routine after-care.
