WHEW, it's been a long week!
First off, I am sorry for disappaearing without a word to anyone, but when I detail the last week, you guys will understand.
As some of you may know I had my surgery, open RNY, done 10-19-04 at Vandy with Dr. Wright. I came home (the first time) last Friday. Within 24 hours, we had tried everything under the sun but I was overcame with severe nausea and couldn't even keep my liquid nausea or pain meds down.
So on Saturday evening we go back to the ER at Vandy; and boy was it packed. Early Sunday morning they admitted me back to 9 South, the floor I had just left Friday evening. I was majorly dehydrated, so I spent a few days getting major IV fluids and phenergan and dilaudid by IV for pain and nausea. They also bumped me back to clear liquids, yet everything still made me gag.
By Tuesday evening, they told me their plan was to put a G-Tube into my native stomach (the part left after they made my pouch) and feed me per tube to give my new stomach time to heal and then we'd see how things went. Well, Vandy being the happening place it is, I kept getting bumped until yesterday when I finally got my G-tube. I lost my umpteenth IV on the table before they gave me the sedating drug and they had to call a speciallity PICC nurse in to replace the IV by finding what veins I had left per doppler. Even then, it took her three sticks to get a good one.
I spent the next 24 hours getting firs****er and then 1/2 strength feeding per my tube to make sure I could tolerate that. And HALLEJUAH, I just returned home for the second time about an hour ago.
My husband didn't think to pick up my purse with Jen's numbers in it when we went back and he refused to leave me at the hospital except to go to work; hence, my not being able to update anyone.
As of today, I have lost 22lbs since my pre-op weight. I am sore and extremely tired, but I am alive. Being a nurse, I am able to feed myself and didn't require home health. And in no way do I regret having surgery at all. Surgey is always a gamble and Dr. Wright said I am just one of the oddities, but he thinks I will heal fine and do well.
Now, I am heading back to my recliner. May you all be blessed and well.
Love, Kelly
Hi Kelly, I sure am glad you are alive, let's keep you that way. My dr.'s are trying to deydrate me from all the fluids in my legs, around my heart and lungs. I have to take 2 different ones a day, the major draw back is it's also drying out my eyes and this is ragweed season. So I think you and I will be having to drink a lot of water. Honey, you take care of yourself and know you are in God's hands. Love Kathy
Kelly, I am sorry I didn't get anything posted for you. I didn't get home right away and when I did I had to go to Lebanon to pick up some clothes from these people who brought to me via my aunt from Oklahoma. I got so busy I forgot. Please forgive me. I hope you are feeling better. I know it is pretty rough at first. Sheila
Sheila, no worries, hun. I was just glad to get home last night. It was great seeing you at the group meeting the last couple Fridays.
Everyone else, thanks for the well wishes and good vibes.
Joe, There was one food I found I could eat in the hospital without nausea (egg drop soup), I got greedy and ate too fast the second time and made myself sick, too. That feeling really sucks. I was so glad to get home and see your surgery went off sucessfully.
Today has been a big day for me. Poor Corey was literally worn out from working nights and trying to catch sleep in the hospital during the day so I decided I had to kind of rejoin the world of the functional living. My dumb ex had my kids all week, knowing I was sicker than a dog, yet he didn't make sure they had costumes for Halloween. So my morning started with a trip to the bank and then Krogers. I did give in and use a scooter in the store instead of trying to walk around. We got the baby a suitable costume and I picked up some fruit baby food while there to see if I'd have luck keeping it down. From there we went to Wendys to get the kids some food. Then I had to come home and rest for an hour. I then ventured back out dropping daughter #2 at a friend's house so she could go celebrate Halloween with her kid who is the same age. The oldest daughter and I then went to Fashion Bug as she is going to be in a fashion show there next Saturday. I sat for 3 hours in the dressing room while she tried on everything they had in their JR. dept but we finally found one awesome outfit. By this time, I was almost in tears and we came home and I took some pain meds. Daughter #3 was just picked up by her classmate's mom as she is going to take her trick or treating for me. And the oldest daughter turned down two parties to stay home and take care of her old mom and pass out candy to the kids who come by.
As for food, I have had 2 jars of fruit medley baby food and about four crackers all day. The rest I will give myself per tube tonite.
And now, mellow medicated me is gonna go chill in the recliner. May you all have a blessed and joyful holiday night.
Love, Kelly
