WOOHOOOOO-long post
HELLO EVERYONE!! I have been meaning to write this to y'all, but I have been soooo busy with my internship that this is the first time I had a chance to breathe. I am not sure if I have told y'all about the whirlwind I have been on to get this surgery in gear, so here it goes. I had my sleep study in August, thought I would be able to have surgery in December, since I thought I only had to do 1 semester on my internship (or so I thought). Well, found out from the university I had to do a year long internship, so the surgery was put on the back burner. When I started my internship I mentioned to my supervisor that I had thought about having WLS in December, and explained how my plans changed. Well, she mentioned in September that she thinks December would be the best time for me to have the surgery because that time of the year is usually on a down swing and I would have Christmas break to help recover. She has been so great throughout my internship and I knew she was pushing for me to have it so that I would not be discriminated against when I went on interviews. Anywayes, went to my first support group meeting at Gateway in September (this was when I knew I would go through with the surgery. Prior to this I would keep saying I was going to go a meeting, but made excuses not to.) While there I spoke with Michele, the Bariatric Nurse Coordinator who had the surgery 3 years ago. She told me all the things that I needed to have done before being scheduled for a follow up with Hruska. I left that meeting feeling overwhelmed and thinking I should just throw in the towel now. I had to have my psych eval, my dietitician, and the training class. All this before seeing her for a December date!?! and then Hruska's office said December dates were filling up quickly. UGGGHHH. Well, my hubby and supervisor encouraged me to go through the hoops. I scheduled my psych eval for Oct 15 (earliest she could get me in), but she called me two days later to reschedule it for earlier. I had my dietitician class scheduled for Oct. 13 and training class for November 3. I was still feeling distressed about getting things in in time. While at the dietitician class, Michele was there and asked if we had any questions. I asked if she could move up my training class. Guess what??? She asked if I could come that Friday (Oct 15-the date of my original psyc eval). Luckily, school was on fall break, so I snapped up the chance. I went to the training, met with Michele afterwards, and she called Hruska's office and scheduled me an appt. for Oct 26!!! I could not believe how fast things had went. I got everything done in a month!!!
Now for the big news. I went to Hruska's office this past Tuesday for my physical. She came in said hello, and told me to go up front and schedule my surgery date!! (I had seen her previously in April regarding the surgery and she remembered me). I am scheduled for December 10th and am on pins and needles. I cannot wait. The only thing upsetting about the visit was that I gained either 20 or 30 pounds since APril.
Now my question is: Does this still mean I have to wait for approval from Tenncare?
I just had to share with y'all. Sorry it was so long.
