question on drinks like advantEdge
ok I am nearing the end of my first week on the liver shrink diet, it has not been all that bad other than the meal shakes , I just dont tolerate them well and barf when i get near them for some reason. My dietician let me go to a cup of 1% milk instead once a day which is great with me but can not be done for protein after surgery. now my questions is... I was shopping last night and saw some meal drinks in the yogurt section I thnk one was yoplait meal drink in peach and strawberry, I took the container over to the advantEdge sectectoin and it had less calories and less fat than the advantEdge, and much the same vitamin benefits. add to that that it cost only 1 dollar a bottle instead of 2+ and I am wondering why everyone is so hot on advantEdge etc. AM I missing something? I also tried the slimfast smoothies and they were as bad as the AdvantEdge drinks. not to mention that slim fast and advantEdge are extremely expensive. So all you old timeers who have been through all of this chime in with your experience , it seems to me there are other possible sources out there in the main food items which might meet our needs , I just am not sure.
oh by the way, my support group this week had a flier on new cereal****ting the market with 75% less sugar in them, trix, luckycharms etc. all the ones kids like so much, they will now offer a variety made with splenda. bout time they started listening to our fat society.
HOpe everyone is having a great day, As I am in liver shrink diet until surgery on the 25th I am now suddenly seeing all of the wonderful foods I wont be able to have again... kind of like knowing an old friend will be moving away forever... some depressoin , but not all that much . now when I walk through the grocery store I seem to smell the food a lot more than before. and boy does it smell good(g). maybe Ill spend my time just walking through the grocery stores smelling what I cant have. anyone else find their sense of smell on foods has increased?
I don't know the deal on the protien shakes since I only tried it once after surgery and didn't like it. So I do plan my meals to get my protien in. So far so good when I went for my bloodwork back in July everything was fine including my protien. Also my sense of smell on foods hasn't seemed to increase any. However at this point I really don't tell myself there is anything that I can't have. I just know that certain foods will make me sick so they are no longer foods I can enjoy and no longer partake of them. As for the other "no no" foods I figure a bite occasionally is ok. I mean I figure hey a bite compared to eating the whole damn cake, batch of cookies etc.. is better for me. Just my humble opinion and Im sure there will be some that vary on it. *huggles*
Hey Joe!!
Not to long ago I was experiencing those smells myself! As for the protein shakes, I too wondered what all the hype is about. Didn't care for any on them. Now that I've been banded, I exclude those types of shakes. Remember that for 1 week after surgery you should only be drinking clear liquids! (Yes, yuck!) I will never look at broth the same way again! lol I just use the carnation instant breakfast sugar free to get my protein. The hunger pangs will get better! Remember this is a chance for a new you, a new life.
Joe,
I am heading otu to WallyWorld in a few to stock up on some protein stuff as I go in Tuesday morning for surgery. I always liked Slimfast when I was yo-yo dieting, but think I will start out with Carnation Breakfast NAS. As for the food desires, one woman told me she used to have head hunger so bad and shed crave something like a Big Mac, so she'd buy one and bite some off chewing it up, but then spitting it out instead of swallowing, hence reliveing her cravings but not taking on needless calories. My husband is taking me to our favorite Indian place tonite as that is my last meal I need to say goodbye to. It isn't that its so fattening, it's just the place is too expensive to go and eat 2 bites.

Joe I'm with you, to many choices and costs! I just went with Unjury Choc because my "new" tummy didn't like alot of stuff... It was simpler to drink it and know I'm getting my protein in for the day and I'm now lactose intolarted so it mixs with water well. At first I could only mix half a scoop at a time. My smell has increased after surgery and all those foods before don't really bother me that much now. It seems everything we as a family do togather revoles around food so that is a little harder to deal with at times.
Best wishes Linda
