dumpin over sugar free cough drop

I am not sure if it was or not, but cramping in stomach did not start until after I took these. Halls sugar free cough drops. I took one last night, it did not bother me.I took one or two the next morning. I may have taken too many. I had a sore throat, so I asked my husband to get me some sugar free throat drops. He got that. I thought it would be ok. I guess not. At least I do not have a sore throat. It felt better to lay down. When I was up it started hurting again. I am better now, just weak. At least I am up now. I had been in bed most of the day. I feel some better now. Has anyone else had problems with this? I know everyone is different, so what may affect me, may not affect someone else. Anyway, I weighed 253 when I entered the hospital last Wednesday. I left the hospital weighed 263 because of IV fluids. My weight now is 243. I am not sure if it will stay that way but I have not seen that weight in 3yrs. How cool. Lisa

I have problems with things that have artificial sweetners in them. Which quite a few things that are labeled "sugar free" do. Check and see what if any type of sweetner is in them. Or it could be made with sugar alcohols which also cause the same problem for me. Hope this helps. *huggles*

Hi Lisa, I am happy you feel better. I won't be experiencing any of those dumping problems, or throwing up. I have officially been denied as of today 8 times, the last from Dr. Wright's office. With the pain in my back so bad that I had to go to the ER, I can pretty well imagin it will get worse because of the weight, and my wheelchair broken. But hey, life goes on, mine will be just a little shorter then those who are getting the weight off. I love ya, girl, best of luck. Kathy

Hiya Lisa! Sorry to hear you had a sore throat but am glad you're feeling better now. I'm not sure if that was dumping or not. I had a severe dumping episode before I ever left the hospital. My last day in, the nurse crushed my meds up in a popcicle that was supposed to be sugar free, but I found out the hard way it wasnt sugar free. I was more nausous than i'd ever been in my life, sweating profusely, weak in the legs and barely able to stand. It lasted a good 45 minutes to an hour and I then fell asleep. When I woke up an hour or so later I had severe diarrhea. My surgeon said that is definately severe dumping. I get cramps and wierd pains from time to time. Artificial sweeteners and lactose do bother some people post op. I'd ask your dietician what they think. Good luck sweetie and God bless! By the way, great loss! Melanie

The label on the Hall's sugar free cough drops warns that they may have a laxative effect. Of course, that is in the small print that we don't always read. Were they by any chance the Black Cherry flavor? If so--I have a problem with them causing abdominal cramping with me and I have not had gastric bypass.

yes they were the black cherry flavor. Oh, well one has to learn right? I wont' be taking those again. Anyway, no sore throat. lisa
