I am almost 2 weeks post op and I know I am not getting enough protein in. I have tried the protein shakes and they just make me gag. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to get more protein? I am supposed to start blended foods this Thursday. And can anyone tell me what goes on at your first post-op appointment? Thanks Tammy

I am still prep until tomorrow but have you tried unjury? I have heard about this on here. I know some of the shakes can be nasty Carb Solutions is . There are some unflavored protein powders you can mix with anything from what I heard on here. I may have to do that when I get home, not sure yet. I hope all goes well with your 1st post op appt. I was passing by the forum( I am in the OFF) and saw your plea. Have you tried Protein Ice. Try you health food stores. It has 40g. protein in a 20 oz. drink without sugar, carbs, fat. I am 1 week out and still on clear liquids, get tired of the sweet taste, but have doing it anyway. Takes all day of course, dogged sipping. Have my first postop appointment on 24th., looking forward to Phase 2 of diet. Getting all my 60 g. protein in a day but one can work up on it. I use Atkins "SHAKE" for other 20 g. and have chicken Wonton soup broth for treat! and non sweet. I have tubes of protein powder I have not tried yet! I have heard to put it in freezer once it is opened so it won't get rancid and ruin your investment. We share ours out if we get tired of it(take it to our support group and give it away). Keep your goal in site, the protein comes in better forms as we go on(food, real food). I will always keep the liquid around in some form to take in car with me. Donna from the Over Fifty Forum

Hi Tammy! I wouldnt be too alarmed just yet. Your body and mind are still adjusting to your new tummy. It will take time to work up to a good amount of protein, or anything else for that matter. In the beginning I drank a lot of Isopure carb free grape drinks. Get them ice cold and pour a small cup at a time. It was a mental trick but doing small cups made it easier for me to get a whole bottle down in a day. Once you're able to do food, tuna is an excellent source of protein. You can get in 40+ grams in 6 ounces of tuna. Its a great way to get it, once you're able. Just try different things until you find something that tastes good to you. I also use the Nectar proteins, the lemonade is a bit harsh in my opinion. The fuzzy navel was great mixed with crystal lite sunrise orange. God bless and hang in there. It gets better! Melanie

Hi Tammy, now that you can have blended foods, Low fat small curd cottage cheese is very high in protein. You can mix it with about 1 Tablespoon of cheese cake mix, some vanilla and it's like a custard. Good luck sweetie. Kathy
