anyone have surgery at centennial medical center with dr dyer ?????
I had my surgery at Centennial on 8/25/04. Dr. Houston was my surgeon and he is absolutely the BEST!!! He did my Lap RNY even though I had extensive scar tissue and adhesions from 7 previous hernia surgeries. I did have one drain tube that they took out the day I was discharged but that was due to the extensive work he had to do to separate my bowel from adhesions. He did his fellowship in laparascopic bariatric surgery at Vanderbilt and belongs to the Fellowship of American College of Surgeons ( a by invitation only group). He even does laparascopic revisions which are EXTREMELY complicated. Most surgeons won't even do them. I know I ranting but in my humbe opinion Dr. Houston is the BEST!!! I had no leaks, no real pain, no nauseau or vomiting. Was up walking evening of surgery and getting myself out of bed and walking the next day. Centennial Women's hospital (where surgery is performed) is Top Notch too. All the nurses were great. Big spacious private rooms with your own shower and toilet. The recliner/bed that my daughter slept on was very comfortable. Not one of those cheap shoddy jobs you normally see in most hospitals. Everything is roomy and is designed for larger patients. They even provide you with your own fan (lots of people recommend taking your own fan). If I had it to do over I would not change one thing - not the surgeon or the hospital; both are a 20 out of 1-10. Jeanette (8/25/04 Lap RNY -16)
Dr. Houston did my lap rny on 7/21/04. He is awesome. My recovery went very smoothly. Normally, he does not use a drain tube, hence the reason for the smooth recovery. My surgery was on wed morning and by friday morning, I was so ready to leave the hospital and get in my own bed. On saturday, my mother and I went to petsmart and did some other shopping. Granted, by the time I got home I was exhausted, but some people are still taking pain meds and lying in the hospital on their fourth day out of surgery! I, of course, give all the cred to Dr. Houston. Also, the aftercare group and the support groups are great. You should really attend one or the other or both sometime before your surgery to talk to some other people who have been there, done that! We are all very nice! . If you ever have any other questions about Dr. Houston or Centennial, you can email me! Good luck with your decision.

Hiya Kristie! I, too, had my surgery at Centennial with Dr. Hugh Houston. He has done several of us here, and I cant recommend him enough!!! The man is one of a kind! The staff at Centennial took exceptional care of me, they have wonderful large rooms for the bariatric patients. You would surely be very pleased with both of them. I've had no complications from the surgery and am doing very well. Please dont hesitate to email me if you have any specific questions. God bless and best of luck to you on your journey!

Hi Kristie, I haven't had surgery yet, but will be in the Antioch area weekend of Sept. 18 - 22. I am attending Dr. Oxley's seminar on the 20th in Franklin, and Centennials on the 21st. I have heard a lot about the Centennial Center and the Dr.'s there. I can only say you can't go wrong with this group. I have heard nothing but praise. Best of luck to you sweetie.

Kristie, I have went to the seminar at Centennial. They have great doctors and a great aftercare program, unfortunately, my insurance would not accept Centennial since they are out-of-network with Tenncare Select. I do not know if this is what you have, but I wouldnt give up. I would try anyway. Maybe you will get better luck than I did. I did hear they would make up difference for being out of network. My insurance would not accept them being out of network when there was an in network available. It doesn't make sense to me. But, I would still try.
