I have been told that I have to have a Greenfield Filter installed prior to having surgery. I am on blood thinners .75mg twice a day. Is the filter put in the day of surgery or days before? Is it left in after surgery or taken out? Kathy

Hi Kathy, now you can't judge all filter placement by my bad experience, it just happens sometimes. My first filter is a Greenfield Filter and was put in right at the time of my surgery, the Greenfield Filters are perment. Their are some filters that can be taken out but not that one. Mine slide down when it was put in so it hasn't worked as it should so I had to have another filter placed it is a Vas cath Vena Cava Filter and it to is perment, I am on Cumadin for 6 months then off because of the filters. I hope this helps some Linda

Hi Kathy, Most docs require the filter be put in a few days or a week before surgery so that it is already in place on the day of surgery. Greg

Hi Michelle, I am doing good after my little bleeding artery complication. I will go back to the doc Friday to see how much I have lost and am eager to find that out. How are you doing yourself? I read about your problems with that darn 6 month diet thing. They tried to pull that stuff on me about the diet can't be from a WLS surgeon, but my surgeons nurse swore to me that it was illegal for them to do that. She said it was also insulting in that it implied that they would lie just to be able to do the surgery. She said if you called them on it they would have to back off. You may want to email Joe Bartlett and ask him if he knows if this is legal for them to make that demand of you about it not being with a WLS surgeon. Just a suggestion. Good luck Michelle and if any of us can help let us know. Sorry for the hijack Kathy. Greg

Hi thank y'all for the responses. This blonde is still a little confussed, guess I'll have to call the surgeon on Tuesday and ask his coordinator about this because I have to be on blood thinners. I don't understand why keep the filter in, when blood thinners keep you from getting clots. Again thanks, with hugs Kathy
