This is my first message posted to this message board but I've been watching what other people post for a while. I went to a seminar at Southern Hills Hospital (Dr. Morton) and I'm hoping to have WLS. I was wondering if anyone has heard any horror stories about having WLS. I always see how much everyone appreciates having WLS but does anyone have regrets? Just wondering.

there are a few with horror stories but most dont feel the need to see them as they want to remain upbeat and not worry. If you feel the need as I did to be well informed there os a board here called the memorial board that has stories from those who did not survive. Be warned it can be very depressing if your not ready for it. it can depress you and it can turn you away from WLS, or it could make you stronger.the choice is yours, and only you can know if its right for you. good luck and dont be a stranger on the boards.

Ahhhhhhh....let me clarify.....The memorial board is about people who have died. It is not a board about only people who did not survive WLS. When carefully reading the Memorial board, you will find that a lot of the ons listed there never made it to surgery---died due to other health problems while waiting for surgery or approval, or some of them are people who even made the choice NOT to have the surgery. Others of them did die as a result of surgical complications. When reading the memorial board, you must keep an open mind and read each profile carefully to understand the individual conditions that apply to each person.

Hi Karen, Madison is about 10 straight north of Nashville, it's a subburb of Nashville. Busy town, a lot of traffic as rush hour drivers go thru Madison instead of going the express way. But it has just about everything in that town that you would need. Kmart, Walmart, mall, McDonald's, dollar store, as long as it has those what more do you need? It really is a nice town to live in. Must check it out sometime when you are in the area. Have a great weekend. Kathy PS, I wish you a lot of luck losing the 40#. Is there a deadline to lose this amount, or just have to lose it before the Dr. will do the surgery?

I really was just interested in finding out if people have regrets about the surgery because they are having problems or from anyone who didn't lose weight. I have done alot of research and plan on having Lap Band surgery but I am just wondering if anyone has regrets. I guess somedays I just feel a little insecure about choosing WLS.

Hi Luanne, I used to live in Madison, busy town traffic wise. We lived on Beverly Ave. across from the Library. I am 164 # overweight. I have my living will, durable power of attorney, and my Will already done. I am hoping to have the surgery, I know the risks and odds, if something goes wrong, then at least I tried. On this board, I would say everyone is 90% thrilled to have the surgery and has done great. A lot depends on your knowledge, the surgeon is upfront regarding the risks, attend the seminar, it explains so much. But once you have researched the Dr. of your choice and you feel comfortable with the surgeon, just trust God to handle the rest. Stay on this board. There are so many in here that are in your area. Find a support group in your area and go. Learn Learn Learn everything, if you have a question, post it and someone will either know the answer, or direct you in finding the answer. I have learned so much from this board. Everyone is very supportive. I've been on other boards and hardly no posting, and no support from them. You could spend a day on here and someone will come on and post. Luanne, the alimate decision is yours. Being obese allows other major health problems. It's a killer if not addresses and something done. The best I can offer you, is to really do a lot of research. Get familiar with the different procedures, and Then allow God to direct you to the surgeon that is right for you. Best of luck on your journey, Kathy
