Hi Everyone, It's me...Julie. First of all I want to thank my angel Nicky. She has been wonderful. Now then. I'm only on here for a short time. I am in excrutiating pain constantly. It is very hard for me to do anything. I got home Sunday evening. Everday day since I woke up from surgery I have regretted my decision. I think I've done the wrong thing. I hope that soon this will change. Some of the nurses were absolutely horrible to me. I believe their names were Marilyne and Dotty. They were two of the day nurses. Day nurses were bad while the night time nurses were good. All I want to put in my mouth is water. I am tending to drink more than just sips. I have to literally make myself eat something. All I have eaten is some pudding and yogurt. I am not walking like I should be. It is just so hard. I feel better when I am sleeping. And the pain medicine does not help. It only makes me sick. The nausea medicine don't help much. I try to keep from crying. I hold it in. But I wish I had died. I wish I never had it done. Did anyone else feel this way after surgery?? By the way...I also had to have 4 units of blood. I may have had to had more in the OR. But I was fully awake when they gave me those four units. They took 2 hours each one to get into my system. Can somebody help me?

Oh Julie!!!!!!! Yes, I can so totally relate. I just got home from the hospital on Saturday (surgery was Wednesday, I havn't even posted anything yet) and I too had a very hard time. I had to have 8 pints of blood and 6 of plasma and have had terrible pain. I also regretted my decision for several days and I can't say I'm totally past the regret stage yet. But the fact that I weighed this morning and have lost 12 pounds already makes me feel encouraged. Also, while I am still incredibly weak and in some pain and I can barely get around and, I am feeling much better. You WILL turn the corner and faster than you think. {{{{{{{Hugs}}}}} I hope and pray you will feel much better soon. Email me and we can compare notes! Lisa Huffstetler

Julie, Honey, anytime you have major surgery your body goes through such changes, not only physically, but emotionally as well It is perfectly natural for you to feel these emotions. It is even harder if this is the first major surgery that you've had. Cry all you want to. Get it out of your system, allow yourself to go through the change process and don't feel like an outcast or weirdo for feeling the way you do. Know that we are all here for you, and are praying for you to have a quick and pain free recovery. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you...Hugs, Carol

Julie, I can't say that I needed any blood products or had any bad pain. Did you have your surgery open or lap? One thing I will say to you is to get up and out no matter how much pain you have. You HAVE to keep moving. You need to get some protein in also. Is there a GNC store close to you? There is a product called 100% whey protein. It tastes really good and if you mix three scoops with 10 ounces of water you get 60 grams of protein in one shot. Try it. Add pureed things in one thing at a time so that you know what you can have and what you can't. I hope that this helps you out. But PLEASE do not stay sedate. Keep moving. Try to atleast walk around your house. Laying around can cause blood clots. Promise you'll try??? Anne

Julie, honey, I hate to hear you talk so negatively! Sweetheart, you're barely home from the hospital. Of course you're having difficulties. Its normal to be thinking maybe you made a mistake. I promise you it isnt and things WILL get better. I was on clear liquids for a full week post op. The week after that was thickened liquids, then on to pureed. Are you supposed to be eating pudding and yogurt already? My suggestion on the pain medicine is that if it isnt really helping and only making you sick, why take it? I never even filled my prescription the surgeon gave me. The walking is tough but it helps so much!!! It will help you get well faster, not to mention prevent blood clots which can be deadly. I promise you hon that things get better every day. You do need to walk. Follow your surgeons instructions and you'll do fine. I'll keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery. God bless you! Hang in there Julie. it is tough I know but I hear it gets easier. but you have got to keep moving, even through the pain. Call your doctor and ask if you might be alergic to the pain meds and could he prescribe a different type. I know when my wife had major surgery for a fractured leg she was alergic to the pain meds < caused her severe nausea worse than thepain so she said> they had togive her something very diferent than what they normally use. I am presuming you had open RNY, if so remember that it was a big incision and will take time to heal. if yo have only had surgery this past weekend then it stands to reason that yuo would not be eating more than fluid and soft foods like pudding and yogurt. The loss of blood is a new one on me, were you enemic or a free bleeder? I would check withyour docotr and make sure he explains why you had to have the blood and get him to explain to you in detail what he did in surgery so you are fully informed. when in doubt always ask questions and dont take no for an answer.

Julie, If your having that much trouble - CALL DR. HRUSKA or JUDY! They'll be more then happy to help you out, I'm sure of it! However, you need to keep walking.... If you don't, it can cause even more trouble such has blood clots. Another thing - Crying is normal. Your body just went through a MAJOR surgery. About the 3rd day being home out of the hospital, I jsut bursted out in tears for no reason at all.... After letting it all out, I started to get better - oddly! Another thing - I lost a ton of blood in OR and ended up weak has hell with a fever. Thankfully, my parents asked Dr. Hruska to hold out on the blood tranfsion, I'm really lucky for that. So give it some time... Yes, your in pain but keep remembering once your past the first week - Everything else gets a bit easier. One more thing - There's no such thing has drinking to much water! The more the better, Don't worry to much about getting in the protein just yet... You should still be on liquid diet, atleast I was. Anyhow, walk walk walk! It'll get better soon! -Katie

Hi Julie. I am sorry to hear you have a negative experience with your sugery care. I hope your Pain gets better. I am sure it will when you walk more. I am still preop, so I can not relate yet to the pain you are enduring. I did have a hysterectomy in 2000. But, I know it does not compare to this. From what I heard, please walk, walk, walk. If the pain medicine is not working for you, then call Dr. Hruska, and let her know! YOu shouldn't have to suffer. I will remember the nurse's names when I go to the hospital. I don't want them! Keep your strength up and drink your fluids and get that protein in! You will be in my prayers every night. So have faith god will take care of you and lets you know you have made the right decision.
