Has anyone suffered from depression after surgery?? I am experiencing depression, self doubt... all my life has been filled with diet books and looking for that next magic pill. Food ofcourse has been my consent companion through out my rough and rocky life...... so I have had surgery... I can't eat...now what?

I've been having issues and thought it was depression. However when I went to my PCP he told me that fat stores a lot of hormones. Therefore as we lose the fat it is released into the body. Those hormones play with not only our monthly cycles but with our minds as well. He told me if I was anyone else that had come in with the problems I told him I was having he would have prescribed something however since he has known me since I was 16 and knows Ive had RNY he wants to wait until my weight stabilizes a bit. If Im still having problems then he will prescribe something but he said he is rather certain that once my weight stabilizes I will be A ok . Hope this helps *huggles*

Hi everyone, I heard from my shrink, that this is a normal procedure from having the surgery. It's like after having a baby, we get the blues, well this is basically the same. It should go away after about a month, she said. Best advice, hang in there girls. If after a month, and you still feel this way, let your Dr. know. But it's unbalanced hormones due to having major surgery, they're shifting inside of you. Love yas Kathy

Susann, sweetie, you're only a few days post op. Of course you're over flowing with different frustrations and emotions. We all go through the same thing. I can promise you, it DOES get better. I'll be 3 months post op on the 25th and sometimes I still miss being able to "eat normally", but then I remember how much this has done for me, how much it has changed me. Its worth it. It takes time, but we have to retrain our brains to see food for what it really is..... fuel. It is not our friend or companion. It made us fat. Post op, you are in control. You can do this. Soon you'll be eating again. The further out you get the more you'll be able to eat. The liquids and purees are temporary. You're in my prayers, sweetheart! Hang in there and keep your faith strong! God bless! Melanie
