I just spoke with my doctor on the phone and he said after review of my case with other doctors they feel I need to have a Greenfill Filter place before sugery to prevent blood clots. I don't know anyone with one , he said he will place it thru a vein in my neck? I guess that will make another little bo-bo huh! Best to all Linda

Hey Linda, I had my IV in my neck too! However, I'm not sure if it had the greenfill filter - seeing my size and all it wouldn't surprise me but I was so out of it after surgery; I really don't remember much. But the whole neck scar thing. Don't worry about it! You can barely see my baby scar there! It really just looks like a purple dot! I ended up having 4 stitchs there, that I wasn't aware of! Good luck and don't sweat it to much! -Katie

The Greenfield Filter helps prevent Pulmonary Embolism from occuring. Here is some info. about it: The Greenfield Vena Cava Filter is a small metal device designed to protect against a life threatening condition called pulmonary embolism. The filter is permanently implanted in a large vein, called the vena cava. The filter has six legs that are joined together at the top forming a cone. It is this unique shape that allows the Greenfield Filter to effectively protect against pulmonary embolism while allowing blood to flow through it. Since its introduction in 1972, over 125,000 patients have had a Greenfield Vena Cava Filter implanted to protect them from pulmonary embolism. This site gives you a picture of how it works: http://catalog.nucleusinc.com/generateexhibit.php?ID=9704&ExhibitKeywordsRaw=&TL=4095&A=2 Hope this helps, Greg

Just to add to the info given about the green filter. It is not like a Central Line (which is an IV through the neck). They do howver use the neck vein usually to get it in position to prevent clots. I had a central line but not a green filter my surgeon used both blood thinners and the circulation boots and felt that I wouldn't have a clot issue as long as I got up and moved. Hehe so move I did Best of luck *huggles*
