sleep study update
Well, I had my sleep study yesterday and am amazed that they got enough data collected. I had a miserable time falling asleep, the a/c was on the fritz and the room was so hot. Then there was a thunderstorm and I cannot sleep in those. The nurse was so sweet and checked on me and my roommate to make sure we were OK during the storm and tried to make our stay as comfortable as possible. When I told her I use a fan to help me breathe while sleeping, she loaned me her desk fan that she uses through the night at her station. She was as sweet as can be. And get this...She had WLS four years ago!! We talked about it as she was putting the sensors on me and we had a grand old time. She made me feel very relaxed. Sh aid that from what she saw on the monitors, I will be needing a cpap machine. Oh joy of joys.
Talk more later.

Once you have your surgery, you may never need the cpap again. I have been on one for over 3 years. I can tell you the gell mask is the most comfortable. To get used to it, try just wearing it while watching TV or when you're on the computer. At night, try everyother night for about a week. If you lay down to rest, put the mask on. But I don't recommend a fan running when wearing the mask, if your room is a/c. The fan stirs up dust and that will get to your filter on the cpap. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Been there, Done that. Let me know what level of sleep your machine will be set on. I'm in a range of 15-20, without the mask on when I lay down, could end up killing me. Because I am a high risk, I will have to be put on oxygen while in the hospital, and come home with it for about a week. My support leader was at 13, came home with oxygen for a week, and never had to put her cpap on again. So I already know that because I am a real high risk, that I may never get off my cpap, and if I am lucky it will drop the level way down. At least until the weight comes off my lungs.
Susan, I want to wish you well on your journey to becoming a loser.
Hugs to you, kathy
