I went to my PCP today to get his blessing. He will give it if I contact 10 of Dr. Houston's patients and speak with them (email is fine). He just wants me to know that I am going to a reputable and quality doctor/hospital. Please help if you have used Dr. Houston or Centennial Medical Center. I have to do my "homework" before my doctor will write my letter. Thank you. Jeanette

What is up with that? Speak to 10 patients of a particular surgeon? Good Grief. I understand your PCP wanting you to be informed about the procedure but---well, that seems a bit silly to me. I am sure you will be able to find at least 10 on this board that have gone to Dr. Houston. As a matter of fact, I believe I read that one is going to begin working for him if she has not already done so. I would think that your PCP would have access to peer information through the AMA or County Medical Society and would be able to make a recommendation to you based on that information. Oh well, different strokes for different folks. Good Luck with your journey. (Oh and one suggestion--find the support group for Dr. Houston's patients and attend one of their meetings. Bet you would be able to find 10 of thier patient's in one place then.)

Hi Jeanette, I am using Dr Houston. My surgery is 8-16. So far he has been fantastic. I have heard nothing but good things about him. My husband was even impressed by him and it takes a lot to impress my husband. I feel very confident using Dr Houston. Good luck and God Bless! Donna

Thanks Donna for your reply. My husband, too, was impressed by Dr. Houston at the seminar this past TUesday night. I'm sorry but I misspoke in my post. My PCP wants me to talk to post-op patients of Dr. Houston. He's just concerned and want to make sure I am getting a top notch doctor. He had a nurse a few years ago that had the surgery and she almost died. I remember her. She was always sick and could never keep her potassium up. At the time I didn't know that was what was wrong with her. I appreciate the fact that he (PCP) cares enough to make me check it out and not be blinded. Thank you again. Good luck with your surgery! Melanie did respond. Thanks for the tip. I've got emails from 5 of Dr. Houston's patients. I read the online testimonial of several others. My GYN, PSYCH, & Surgeon (from past hernia surgeries) all have given me the "thumbs up". I faxed my "report" to my PCP today. I'm sure he'll write my approval now. So I'm on my way!
