RE....What did you eat today???.....
Hello Friends..This is a good time for me to bring up a question I have been wondering about.
I work night shift 6P-6A,and if you will notice any posts or replys I make is in the weeeeee hours of the morning. For instance,I went to bed at 5Am this morning, was still awake at 7Am, fell a sometime after 7Am and got up at 4Pm this afternoon.I just cannot at night anymore unless I have like 4 or more days off in a row(I'm a nurse, this never happens!!!).
With all this being said,I have no idea how I'm going to eat all the protein and drink all the water I need after this surgery.I eat 1 meal a day usually. But I am really bad to snack while on the computer(just finished a bowl of cereal).
When I got up I had Hamburger steak,Green beans with new potatos cut up in them,Corn on the cob and sliced tomatoes.....YYYYUUUUMMMM!!!
Anyhoo,Just curious if there are any others out there that have had this surgery and work nights and if so,how do you get in the protein and water??
Thanks,
April
Hi April, I am a night owl. If I have an appointment the next morning, I force myself to just lay down, if I sleep fine, if not then at least I rested. I can always nap later. But because of your hours, I would say, take your protein with you to work. Most patients should be asleep during that time, and keep water near by, bottle water works great, it can't be spilled on anything of importance. I haven't had the surgery yet, I'm still having trouble just getting a surgeon to agree to it. I wish you well, and just do the best you can. You didn't mention when you had the surgery, or if you are getting ready for it.
Hugs, Kathy
Hey Kathy..I can't believe anyone else is awake.
I haven't had the surgery yet.I'm just not in the mood to fight with Ins Co I just keep putting it off.I have managed to get myself off for 7 days though and plan to work on that Ins Co.
I wish patients slept at that time!!!!!! My job would be easy.
I wish you luck on finding a surgeon!
April
I work nights April. I usually bring something to eat as a meal, and then some sirloin sticks. Usually two servings. I like to bring yogurt and then bring some carnation instant breakfast to drink before I head home at 7a. I work 7p-7a. I also am a nurse. I have been having trouble getting all of my protein in but I do make a conscious effort to get as much in as possible. Today wasn't a good day because my little pouch has been upset most of the day. I'm just now starting to feel a little bit better. Hope this helps you out...
Anne
Hi,
My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, and one of the things I did was bid for a different shift. I was working 3:30 to midnight and staying up til 3 and 4 am, going to sleep and waking up at 11 just enough time to have a cup of coffee and start getting ready for work again. My family life was also starting to suffer with this shift. So I'm off all next week for the surgery and when I go back on Mon, Aug 9 th, I will start 10:30 am-7:00 pm. I think this is going to work out better for me. I'll get back on a more normal schedule sleep wise and will get to go see our 14 year old play in the band during football games on friday nights in the fall. The other shift was great at first, but after a year, I wanted a change.
I have no idea what to eat after I am healed and will be looking for help with this issue also, but from what the nurtritionist told me, its trial and error on what foods you personally tolerate well...vs others you don't. I'm gonna work on the protein issue as well. Hey Anne, my daughter in law works at Walmart in Covington and I may have her pick me up some of those sirloin sticks...but it will be at least a month before I get to that point...but thanks for the info!
