I got insurance approval today!!!! After 4 denials!!!!!!! I am so excited!!!! Now, I can't wait to get it scheduled.....but, of course, the scheduling nurse is on vacation this week! Does anyone have any idea how long Dr. Madan's office in Memphis typically takes to schedule surgery? Or how long is the average for any doctor? Lisa

Congrats, Lisa! I just received an email from Dr. Madan about doing a revision on a failed surgery I had 13 months ago (staple line disruption from another surgeon). I'm feeling your same anxiety... how long before I can have surgery! Hopefully it won't be too long but I'll be curious as to whether anyone can give you some insight. DeeDee

Lisa, If you don't mind me asking, why were you denied 4 times. I have been denied twice and am trying to fight them. Maybe Your story could help me. Thanks Nicky

Basically, most of it had to do with the dreaded diet history. BCBS wanted "2 years of medically supervided attempts to lose weight." We were going back and forth about exactly what that constituted. I do have doctors records indicating medically supervised attempts to lose weight - that doesn't mean every time I went to the doctor for a sinus infection or something that weight was discussed! Another problem was the BCBS refused to give me anything in writing about exactly what was required. So some of the back and forth was them denying becasue they basically needed more information. My advice is 1) be persistent. As I'm sure you've read on here, many insurance companies routinely deny hoping that a person will just go away. 2) If you arn't getting anywhere on your own, hire legal counsel, even if its just to write a letter. I was in the process of doing that when my approval came through. Joe Bartlett on this board helps some people. Often the ins comp realizes you are serious with legal counsel. Hope this helps! Lisa

Dr. Madan had cancelled all surgeries for the month of July and has just started to reschedule. Or at least that is my understanding. So it may take a little bit since he may be slightly behind. Of course this is just my very uninformed observations. Way COOL on your approval!! I am so excited for you!! Dr.Madan is my surgeon as well. I am soooo pumped to get my surgery. I am just waiting on them to call me with my appointment for an EDG and as far as I know that is the LAST test to be done!!!! Praise GOD!!! Eva C

Yes, I did know about that! they told me today that surgeries are back on. Unfortunately, Kim, the surgery coordinator is on vacation this week so I won't get a date until next week!!
