I may reconsider

I have been saying all along that I had finally made a solid decision NOT to have surgery....but I may reconsider. I just cannot lose this weight. I'm just afraid of dying and leaving my daughter. I know, I know...obesity kills too....... Does anyone know why Dr. Husted, in Nashville, does not take TennCare Select? He is the one doctor whose website I keep returning to, who has great reviews from patients, etc. and his name keeps popping into my head every time I even think about this surgery. However, he does not take my insurance. Also, my regular doctor recommended against WLS due to complications 5-10 years down the road that have not been investigated enough. Is there anyone that far out who knows? He said "that part of the stomach is there for a reason, and you will be unable to absorb vitamins and nutrients that you need"...........I know, personally, someone who now has to have iron administered intraveniously (sp)...and wondered if anyone can verify these types of complications..... Thanks, MomOf4

Honey, it's ok. I too went to Dr. Husted's seminar & I thought he was great, but he is NOT the only surgeon. Dr. Hruska takes Tncare I believe & from what I hear she is really good & her office staff is really great. You are so right about obesity killing & just to be dead honest w/a BMI as high as yours if you don't do something you probably won't be around to see your precious daughter graduate high school. You definately need to do something, whether it be surgical or not. Also, while there are risks associated w/these or any surgeries you have to weigh the risks associated w/this with the risks associated w/staying MO. Have you considered the lapband? It is just as effective of a surgery but w/less serious risks. If you visit the lapband board there are plenty of people there that would love to give you some more information. TTYS Candi

You will have to take vitamins for the rest of your life, to get the nutrients that you will lose after surgery. Calcium, mult-vitamin, B-12 shots once a month, some take the pills every week, but the shot gets into the blood stream, where as the pill goes toward your stomach, and doesn't last as long as the shot. I have heard that the baby vitimans or chewables are good to take. But I myself would prefer on the first of each month just get the shot. You may be able to have that as a prescription where it's done at home. Do it for yourself, and you may have to change PCP for the referral letter. Best of luck to you on your journey. Always, Kathy

I don't know about long term effects of surgery but what about the long term effects of being obese? Can it be any worse? I am willing to risk it. Check out Dr Mark Colquitt he takes TN Care And he is located in Maryville Tn. Kristy
