What happens during consultation with Dr. Hruksa?
I was wondering what all happens during the consultation and what happens after that.
In other news, my mom is still the psychiatric hospital. She is doing about the same I have heard. We are planning to go this Saturday to visit. She seems to get upset when we visit. We think this is due to wanting attention. She is eating now, so that is good. I go for my consultation tomorrow with Dr. Hruska. I will probably have to leave by 10:30am to get there on time. Wish me luck!

Can't answer for consultation with your Dr. but just wanted to say Hi, I live in Shelbyville, too. Had my surgery with Dr. Wright at Vandy 3 years ago...let me know if I can help you with anything. Where do you live/work? I teach 2nd grade at Southside. You can click on my profile and e-mail, if you'd like to talk just send me your phone #.
Good luck!

I live on 41 A North near Community School and I work at Waffle House in M'boro. I have heard of Southside and I think I know where it is at. I did look into Vandy but then I checked out Centennial. That did not work because Centennial was out of network with Tenncare Select. I decided on Dr. Hruska. Feel free to check out my profile if you would like or to email me too.

Hi Lisa,
When I had my first visit with Dr. Hruska on June 29th I sat in the waiting room with several other overweight people. First, we were each taken back to be weighed and given a folder with surery information in it. We went back out to sit and wait. Then after each person had their turn to be weighed, Dr. Hruska came out and talked to us and showed us this presentation. It covers both surgeries that she does now...Open RNY and Lap Banding. After the presentation each patient was taken back to talk to her privately.
She answers all your questions. She asks which surgery you prefer or tells you what she thinks is best for you. She asks several questions....very easy. She listens to your heart and lungs. She feels your belly.
In my case she wants me to lose 10 pounds by July 27th...my next appointment. This next appointment she said would be my pre-surgery appointment and my surgery should be soon after.
I believe she really wants everyone to try to lose 10 pounds. The reason being...so that it helps eliminate some of the fat from the liver and makes the surgery much easier for her to do.
Her nurses are great and she is too. Good luck with everything.
Hugs...
Julie
My consult with Dr.Hruska consisted of me being taken back weighed and placed in a room where I was told to put on one of those paper gowns. Dr.Hruska then came in asked me a few questions. Did a breast exam and then we discussed the surgery. At that time the only WLS procedure she was doing was Open RNY. She explained to me in detail about the surgery and possible complications. Im not to sure how many ppl have the group chat in her waiting room though since when Ive gone for appts there are patients in the waiting room that aren't there for WLS since Dr.Hruska and Dr.Steeley both are also general surgeons.I know when I went at the end of June there were several women there for their first consult with Dr.Hruska and their appts. went pretty much like my first one did. Also I guess experience has had her to ask her patients to lose some weight I know she didn't ask me to and I was 373 at my first consult and my BMI was 66. However I did manage to lose about 14 lbs before surgery. So who knows. Do make a list of questions you have though regarding the surgery. *huggles*
