Hi!! I was wondering if those who have Dr. McGrath-Weaver could share their experiences with me? I would really appreciate it. I have read her patient forum posts but would like to hear from more patients if possible. I am considering switching from another surgeon to Dr. McGrath-Weaver. What kind of pre-op testing does she require? How long was the wait for a surgery date? I have already seen a Cardiologist, Nutritionist, Psychologist and have an appointment with the Pulmanologist this next week. The RNY is a covered benefit with my insurer ( Praise God!!) so that is not a problem. (Thank you Jesus!! ) So... I would really like to hear from those who have gone thru the process with Dr. McGrath-Weaver!! Thank you so much, Eva C.

Eva, I have a friend you had Dr. McGrath and she said that she was absolutely wonderful. I switched to Dr.Woodman recently and the reasons are on my profile if you want to see why. There are some things in there you need to consider before switching to her. It is absolutely nothing to do with her professionally as a doctor though. Best of luck to ya. Tara

EC, I had surgery with Dr. McGrath-Weaver about two weeks ago. Her program is very comprehensive. You will need to go through 4 consecutive classes with her dietician. They are held on Wednesday nights at 6pm. Once you are done with those, and your insurance is approved, you will see her. She is awesome!!!!!! She is very knowledgeable and very good. You can tell by talking to her that she cares very deeply about all of her patients. She did her fellowship in bariatric surgery at the University of Ohio. Prior to that she did her 5 year residency in Memphis at the local hospitals. Her husband is a neurosurgery resident right now and I think he has two more years......they go longer. She has had one death since she's started. She's done over 400 surgeries with that one death and so that makes her way above the national average. As far as complications go, she has minimal. My main complaint with everything was the swallowing test after surgery. She is a good choice. Anne

Dr. McGrath-Weaver did my surgery on the 8th of June and I love her! It took me lots of research into every surgeon in this city and when I found her, I knew she was the one. Her extensive training is the first thing that sold me. Her comprehensive testing was the second and her bedside manner was the third. She has you get a physical and letter of recommendation for surgery from your primary care physician. You have to go to 4 nutritional classes before you meet her - I had no problem with this. I was very lucky - they faxed my paperwork on a Monday to my insurance and I got verbal approval on Wednesday. I got called on Thursday for my initial meeting with Dr. M-W. I saw her about 10 days later and my surgery was about a week and a half later. I would've had it sooner, but I had family coming to visit and wanted to spend time with them. Her office staff is very professional and is run extremely efficiently. They are always at your disposal for questions or anything you need - I got really scared about a week before my date and called her nurse (who she operated on) and she listened to me vent and cry and calmed me down. I can't say enough good things about her. I didn't like the barium swallow or the bowel prep the day before, but this is for our safety and I am glad she does them. Take care and best of luck! Hi, I can't say enough good things about Dr. McGrath-Weaver. I went to 2 other surgeons first and had a very uncomfortable feeling. I also had done all my pre-op tests elsewhere and switched to her towards the end of the process and have not regretted it. Not only is she very skilled and dedicated, but so concerned and compassionate. I am so glad I chose her. I am now almost 4 months out (3/18) and I am down about 70 lbs and 5-6 dress sizes. Feel free to email if you have other questions. As far as scheduling out, A friend at work saw her last week and got a date the last week of this month. Debra
