Met Dr. Hruska
Hi everyone,
I had my surgeon consult yesterday. Dr. Hruska made a presentation about the RNY and Lap Banding procedures. There were several others wanting to have surgery there too. Then we were taken back to the rooms to talk to her privately.
She talked to me and agreed that the RNY would be best for me. She told me that I needed to lose 10 pounds so it would be easier for her to do the procedure. I don't even know where to start at losing the weight anymore.
She also warned me about if I had too much fat on my belly and she felt it would be unsafe to continue with the surgery she wouldn't do it. She has had that happen only one time. But she said the person it happened to was a little bigger than myself. She thinks I will be ok. I sure hope she can do the surgery and not have to open me up for nothing.
She told me she would see me back in four weeks. And hopefully before that time someone will call me with a date for surgery. She said I should be able to have the surgery shortly after seeing her this next time.
After I started home I seriously got all scared. I am now more scared about doing this than I was excited and nervous. I am wanting to question myself about why I would do this. I think the fact that the time is so close it feels so real that I am scared.
Thanks for listening,
Julie

EVA ORTIZ
Hi Eva,
I also have TennCare. I am going to have the RNY. I believe that whichever surgery you chose she wants you to lose at least ten pounds.
I did have my sleep study, dietary consult and psych eval done before I saw her. I also got my doctor to write me a letter stating that I needed to have the surgery for health reasons. However, some of the people there did not have this stuff. But the staff said they could help them set up the appointments. I myself wanted to have it all done before I saw her so my PCP set up my appointments.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Julie
Katie,
Thanks. I have to tell you something....I had a dream about you last night. It was strange. But in my dream just like on this board....you seem to be a really great person.
May I ask...how long did it take you after the first consult to actually have the surgery?? Did Dr. Hruska tell you the same things? I'd just like to know what someone else went through.
Thanks.
Julie
Aww Julie - That's really sweet of you!
However, it sounds like Dr. Hruska is doing things a bit different - Which is understandable because you have to keep in mind...
1. She's a new doctor in Tennessee (I heard she started in January!) and learning her way around things.
2. She seems to have a huge heart and willing to help those in need by accepting TennCare.
3. She's learning new things everyday, especially when it comes to WLS.
So my point is - Everyone is going to be different! I think my experince was a bit different then a few peoples because I'd already been to 2 other doctors. I also already had all my tests finished, other then talking to a shrink! I also already been approved by insurance 2 times - Dr. Hruska's office had to get it approved for the 3rd time because the 2nd time around was expired and they wouldn't just okay it over the phone.
About lossing the weight - Again, everyone is different. Everyone gains weight in a different way. For example if your weight is on your stomach, I can understand having to loss weight more so then someone thats gained there weight in a different way. Hopefully, that makes sense.
The best thing I can tell you is - Do whatever Dr. Hruska says! Follow her orders! Follow her diet! And the weight will fall off!
