6 weeks since my surgery.....

Actually tomorrow will be 6 weeks and I am miserable. The first 3 weeks I was able to eat anything on the list and a few things that weren't. I felt fine, never had anything disagree with me. Until I was 3 weeks out. I was able to ea****ermelon at 3 weeks, now I can't. it comes back up. I'm taking itty bitty bites and chew it like crazy...in fact I chew everything until it is nothing but mush... I can't even drink my soups (cream) or eat mashed potatoes...scrambled eggs.I cannot drink anything or eat anything sugar free..I have NEVER liked SF stuff and it is even worse now. It all comes back up immediately. Right now I am able to drink bottled water-ice cold or with lots of ice. That stays down. Everything I eat either comes right back up and if it doesn't I am severely sick to my stomach! Something is not right. Last Monday (the 12th) I had to call the dr. because I was unable to keep even water down. Plus I was going pee about every 20 hours...I was in pain. he sent me for blood work and took one look at me and put me in the hospital. I had a bad UTI. he checked for leaks and there were none so he decided I was sick due to the UTI. that it upset my stomach. I had a catheter for 2 days ( and let me tell you-IF you have an UTI it is the most painful thing you have ever felt!!!!).He had me on clear liquids and had me pumped full of fluids since I was also very dehydrated. I also got sick several times in the hospital, but not as bad. Since I have been home a week it is getting worse. The one way it is not is that I can at least drink the water. So, I know I am not dehydrated. But that is the only thing I can drink. I cannot tolerate any juices. Not even sugar free. Or unsweetened. Not even watered down. At this point I can't even hardly eat. I get so depressed when I hear about others who had their surgery AFTER me are eating regular foods...with no problems. I'm wondering if others had this problem or am I a freak? The good news is I have lost 52 pounds.

Hey Darla, I am not post-op, but I read your story & just wanted to give you some support. Have you contacted your surgeon again? What about a nutritionist? Or even your PCP, I think I'd be a little worried, but maybe someone on the main board could help you a little more. Did you have the RNY? Good luck & keep us posted! Candi

Hiya Darla! 52 lbs in 6 weeks, thats so wonderful! I congratulate you on such a great loss. As for your eating difficulties, could it be that you are still recouperating from the illness? I'm preop too but if theres one thing i've learned reading all the posts is that no two people are alike. It would probably do you some good to not compare yourself to the others until you are all healed. Call your surgeon again. Let him know you're upset about it and get his recommendations. Perhaps just talking to him will set your mind at ease. Best of luck dear. Hang in there!! God bless! Melanie

HI. I had OPEN RNY. I healed real fast from that. The problems I have having have nothing to do with it being open. Also-an UTI is an Urinary Tract Infection. Very painful!
