I've only lost 20 lbs in 9 weeks

I had a lap band put on February 2nd 2004 and I've only lost 20 lbs, I am able to eat too much, most of the time, I'm wondering if I made a mistake when I picked this method of surgery. I am due for a tightening of the band, I'm scheduled for that next week. Does anyone have similar results - my starting weight was 266 - I'm down to 246. I am taking insulin for insulin resistance diabetes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rebecca

Hi, I didn't have lapband done however considering what you stated as your starting weight I would think you are considered one of the "lightweights" that have any sort of WLS done. From what I have read on this website usually the higher your start weight usually the more weight you initally lose. Also lapband like any of the other surgeries is just a tool. If you think you are eating too much then try and cut back. Don't test the band. If your surgeon says to only eat this much then stop at that amount. If you are still struggling with it then call the surgeon to have the band tightened (as you have done). Hope this helps. Take care and I hope it all works out for you. *huggles*

Eva, I have Humana Select. The sugery ended up costing me around $2000 out of pocket - but I saw my bill from Southern Hills and it was $28000. My surgeon was Charles Morton - I'm pretty sure he only does the lapband surgeries. I don't know what insurances he takes, but I know that they have seminars every month, and at that seminar there is his insurance specialist, You might want to give him a call (I don't have his number, but he is in the book) Even though I am loosing slow, I'm still loosing! I know the amount of insulin I'm still having to take is drastically slowing the weight loss down, but I"ll get there. Rebecca
