Introduction to this group

Hi everyone!

I have been preparing myself for this journey for about 2 years and it is now getting toward reality time.  I am 59-1/2 years old, married, 3 grown children and work full time.  I am also a grandmother.

My surgery, which has recently changed from RNY to VSG due to finally getting approval from insurance, will be in August or September.   I live near Nashville in the northern/eastern part. 

Could anyone recommend a support group that meets on Saturdays or a week night north of Nashville?  I do have that requirement prior to surgery.  I have heard there is a group that meets at Hendersonville Hospital but I don't know if that information is current.  

Any tips, hints, advice, or just hellos would be most welcome.

Congrats on your journey getting closer and closer. I too will hopefully be having my surgery in September or maybe October and I also see Dr. Williams.

I had the LapBand in 08/2007 and done great with it. after a little over a year I had lost almost 100 lbs. In 2009 I started having some complications and ended up having if removed in Oct. of last year.

I am starting my journey over again and this time I will be having the RNY. I am having to do the support group thing and the 6 months on PCP visits. I will have 4 of those 6 months behind me after this month. So I am looking to have everything completed and turned in the 3rd week of August.

I wish you luck on your journey and who knows, we might be having surgery on the same day with the same doctor..........LOL

Thanks for your reply Cheryl and also Pam.

I have done my 6 months with the PCP but lacking the 30 days on CPAP and the support group documentation.  I am planning to have the VSG.... thought for a long time I was doing RNY but my last visit with the dietician and the insurance specialist I was informed that my insurance will now cover the sleeve... YAY!!!!!   I really like Dr. Williams and all the support staff.

Found a trick on one of these boards yesterday about adding ranch dressing or something similar to Greek yogurt (I don't like the sweetened yogurts) ... I tried it and liked it a lot.  So every day brings new surprises and gets me a little closer to goal.  I can't wait!!

Cheryl... it would be nice if we were having surgery the same day.  

Welcome! We share the same surgeon! I just wanted to say hi and welcome to the board! I live in Hendersonville, but I attend the support group at Vanderbilt as well as the monthly lunch bunch organized by the folks here at the TN board. If you have any questions just send me a message and we will get in touch. I think you will enjoy participating here on the TN board. There are a lot of very, nice helpful people here. There is also a VSG board as well with lots of helpful information on VSG sugery. Keep us posted on your progress and congratulations!

Thanks for your message.  I just saw it today.  For some reason, on this particular board, I don't always get notified that someone has replied.  Anyway, I am going to try to go to the Hendersonville meeting tomorrow.  It is difficult for me to get to Vanderbilt during the day because of my schedule but I will work it in when I can.   I only have a couple more things to do before I get a surgery date and I am very excited.

There is a support group that meets every Wednesday 1:30 p.m. at Vanderbilt...  We are meeting today.  Do you think you can join us today?  Would love to have you.

I am sorry I didn't see this in time to reply but I really can't do a Wednesday meeting right now because of other commitments.  I may be able to switch my schedule around at some point so I will keep that in mind.  Do you meet at 100 Oaks or the main Vandy campus?
