I may not have the inclination or even the sense to get online, but my mom will want to and she's staying with me. Is there access in the hospital?

I went to the pre-op class Monday and did the pre-admit stuff at the hospital. It was a very long drive for that little dab of stuff. *sigh* But next time, it will be for the big switcheroonie.

Charlee,

I had my iphone with me at the hospital and was able to get access to the internet from my phone in my hospital room.  I am guessing that you will be able to connect with your lap top.

I don't know if Holly has any pull on which room you would be assigned, but the rooms at the end of the hall are renovated and more spacious than the other rooms.  I was in one during my DS surgery, but in a regular one during my lap band.  The bigger ones have a desk and a fold out sleeping area..

Are you planning on staying in the area after your release?  I honestly could not imagine riding from Nashville back to Arkansas on the day of my release.  I imagine you will need a few days of rest.  Let me know if you need anything.

Yes they do have wifi and it is very easy to access.  No passwords needed.

I had the room on the end when I was there last May.  It was nice.  When my hubby was in a couple of weeks ago he had a regular room and it was also nice just not as spacious.

Good luck!!!

Beth

Oh good, thanks! I may not use it, but I'm taking the baby laptop. I just emailed Holly and said if she had any pull, I sure would love to be in one of the bigger rooms, especially since my mom is going to be staying with me The Whole Time.

Mary, I don't know. Dr. Houston said he might keep me an extra night since I have so far to go. It will depend on how I feel. It's a 4.5 hour drive one way and I40 is bumpy as all get out - makes any vehicle ride just like a log wagon. LOL  I'd say I would stay in a hotel a couple of nights, but don't know that sleeping in a flat bed will be a good plan. I'm liable to drug up and tough it out just to get home to sleep in a recliner. The passenger seat in my car goes almost flat and I have a lot of pillows. I'd probably need to drug up anyway. My mom's driving makes me insanely nervous.

Staying an extra night is a very good idea. Listen to him because he's an excellent physician. I stayed an extra day because I just didn't feel right and I'm really glad I did. I've had absolutely no complications or problems and I followed his instructions closely. That meant staying on clears and full liquids longer than a lot of people on OH, but I feel absolutely great now, so it was really worth it. Don't push yourself; take the extra time and stay healthy. If it were me, I'd stick around in a hotel for a couple of days just in case you have a complication. You really cannot beat the nursing care at Centennial and that's where I'd want to be if I had a problem. Better to be safe and healthy, even if you have to slow down for a few days.

Sounds advice, thanks! I love to hear good stuff about Dr. Houston. It validates my first impression of him. He may not have done 100+ DS procedures, but he came across as incredibly competent and confident - both of which are absolute MUSTS for a surgeon, especially the one who will surgery on me! He pretty much brushed off the idea of me staying close by post discharge, but I'm game if it seems the thing to do.
