my ins will not cover lap band will medicare cover if so how can i apply?

I am trying to get the lapband surgery but my BCBS/TN plan on my job excluded the bariatric surgery part out of the plan. It was rumored that Medicare/Medicaid will cover the surgery but i am not sure if i qualify for it because i am under 65yrs of age and i am not on disability. My BMI is >60 and Iam newly diagnosed with high blood pressure. I wanted to know if anyone has applied for Medicare with my or similar problems and has had the surgery. If so how do i apply for Medicare where do I go or can I apply online. Please help.

If you have an exclusion then you might need to fight insurance or self pay.   I am not sure on the medicare but I wanted to wish you luck on your journey and an exclusion is not the end of the world.    I had an exclusion on my policy luckily my company was sold and I changed policies and my new one does not have an exclusion. 

Thanks for the info. I will try to fight with my insurance and have my doctor send letter of medical necessity and see what happens.
