Doing the happy dance..

First off…   you have to know when I was little I was for lack of a better word.. a typical baby sister.. (let you imagination run wild and I probably did it or thought about doing it when I was younger.. ) So, my brothers and sisters all tried to convince me I was adopted.. and I used to get so MAD at them!!!!

Well today, I was ADOPTED and I am so excited!!!!!!!!

Now before I get to far…   I must say, I do not want to upset anyone and it is not my intent to make anyone mad at me or my comments, but they do need to be said… I got adopted today by Centennial, and Dr. Houston, and it had to be done!   In my opinion... Vandy is sinking fast.. and I jumped ship!  I was so happy to get with Dr. Richards and be at Vandy when I started my journey. I bragged on how much they cared and paid attention to my needs. Then Dr. Richards left in April.. (APRIL 2009) and since then, even though I made appts with Dr’s.. Dr. Carpenter, Dr. Williams… when I got there, I got an intern… and NEVER the same intern twice!!  I had all the kidney troubles in August, and did not get to see a “real" doctor neither before or after my diagnosis and I kept asking for an appt with a DOCTOR. When I did get an appt, I would get a call to reschedule. I’ve not had a fill or check up since October. (yes, with an intern) And please do not get my wrong, being a teacher, I have NO PROBLEM with interns and having people learning off of me.. BUT..   we all deserve to see a doctor!!! I finally had had it!!!

I made an appt with Dr. Houston.. . He was wonderful, his staff was wonderful, (Pam was AWOL but next time I will find her, and I already knew she was wonderful!) Dr. Houston took time with me, he talked WITH me, not at or over me… he told me things about my lifestyle and what I should and shouldn’t be doing that Vandy NEVER told me!
He checked my band under fluoroscope and found that Vandy had my small pouch a bit messed up, Dr. Houston came up with a plan to “fix" it. I then got to meet with the dietician.

I am very concerned with the friends I’ve left behind at Vandy and I hope that if you are not being treated with true care and respect you will take my lead and find a place that will…

If you are, then I hope my letter did not offend you.

Please celebrate my adoption with me everyone!!!   I am excited, I felt like I got a new lease on life when I got my band.. now I am feeling empowered on how to use it!!  HUGS

Oh, we really know you were just dazzled by his hotness!  It is fun to joke about all of our little crushes on the man because he is nice looking.  But I'm old enough to be his mother and I've never had the desire to be a cougar.

The honest to God truth is that I suffer from occupational neurosis and my occupation is in healthcare.  I don't know squat about banking or investing for my retirement.  I approach this aspect of my life with perhaps what can be called as ****eyed optimism.  But healthcare is a whole different animal.  I can't or won't claim to know it all.  Yet what I do know is that Dr. Houston is one fine man when it comes to giving high quality of care.  Is he perfect?  No.  But he is pretty close at least when it comes to doctoring.

As for Vandy, well, with teaching hospitals seeing different residents/interns comes with the territory.  What I admire most about Vandy is the caliber of training they do have.  Both Dr. H and my PCP are associated with them.  It was the fellowship that Dr. Houston did there that erased the very few doubts I had about him doing my surgery.  I am also convinced that my PCP's graduation from medical school there and his continued association with their integrative medicine philosophy has helped make him pretty close to perfect, too.

Welcome to the family, Amy.  See you Saturday, God willing and the snow don't fall!

Thank you, yes...   I have to admit Dr. Houston is a hottie..  but what really impressed me is the time he took with me!

And I fully agree about Vandy and coming with the territory, but I asked/begged to see one of the Doctors because I felt my aftercare was just a guessing game to the interns.    Now, I will continue to go to Vandy for my kidney specialist!  He and his staff are amazing and caring, but I doubt the weight loss clinic will ever know I'm gone, mostly because the people that were there when I started are all gone now too!

I wish Vandy the best, it is my hope that as good as they once were, they will get a stable staff and be able to hold onto their Center of Excellence, but my fear at the rate they are going, it is a sinking ship.

And thank you for the welcome to the Centinnial family!!!   I am very excited!

I have watched every weather forcast there is this morning and my chances of getting off my mountain are not looking good..   One day at a time!

Ooooh, who's your PCP???  (you can PM me if you don't want to say it here)

I had been lethargic and sick and just drained for months.  I was so desperate, I called to get into my PCP's office.  He couldn't see me, but a NP did.  Yeaaaah.  She ordered some blood work (good), but even after looking into my nose, she decided that increasing my exercise would be the best thing to get me past this extreme fatigue.

She must have been taught to pretend to look in the nose, but not really pay attention to what you see, or the massive swelling just went over her head.  I saw a NP at the allergy clinic (TINA, I LOVE YOU!) 3 weeks later, she took one glance up in there and had me headed downstairs immediately for a CT scan of my sinuses.

I had been assuming I had allergies, because as my PCP office pointed out, my drainage was clear.  Yeah, it was clear because my sinuses were completely blocked off from swelling and the infection was neatly contained.

I asked my bariatric surgeon to do blood work, too.  Maybe this fatigue was due to an issue from vitamins, iron, etc.  They said yes, but on my next appointment.  I asked in mid-December.  My appointment is in February.  Good thing I didn't wait and put all my eggs in that basket.  I'd still be sick.

Just another example of how we have to campaign for ourselves and keep searching for the right doctor when we know something is wrong and our current doctors are not hearing us.

I don't want a perfect PCP . . . I just want a non-sucky one!
