So off topic..Looking for Chestnuts in a jar. Cookeville, tn
I am looking for Chestnuts already cooked in a jar. No****er Chestnuts.
Need them for some recipes for Thanksgiving and since we are coming for Lunch on Saturday (with the losers :) ) I was hoping someone would know of a place in Cookeville that sells them.
We live in Crossville and no such thing here.
Thanks,
Rhonda
I googled chestnuts in a jar and found this on Amazon.com, they are a bit pricey I thought, however I have never purchase or needed them before to actually compare. Below is the link to the site and if you notice that in the top right-hand corner, they have free 2 day delivery with no minimum purchase. With that, you may have time to get them in time.

I also read where several individuals responded stating that they have seen them at Trader Joe's, as well as, Whole Foods and someone said they saw them at Kroger, but could not remember where in the store they saw them.
The only Trader Joe's in Tennessee is in Nashville, below is the store info, if you call and check maybe someone in Nashville would offer to pick them up and send them to you. I would offer, however I have been suffering with severe back pain and would not be able to get them for you.

Thanks for your suggestions. I never knew they would be so hard to find.
Hubby has been working in Chattanooga this week and I found an Asian Supermarket there, called them and yes they had them. Hubby went to get some and they were in heavy syrup, something you would use for desserts. Even those he said were outrageously priced.
So, we decided since he is home next week, we'll just roast them ourselves. It is just kinda a pain, to roast and peel and is a bit messy.
Oh well, it will definitely be alot cheaper.
Again thanks for suggestions.

Kinda hard to explain what they are. Kinda meaty. Very Tasty. I know you can get them as I posted before in a heavy syrup that is used in desserts. But I use them to make Chestnut Stuffing and Roasted with bacon and brussel sprouts.
When they say "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire" that's the best way to cook them, roasting. Not sure about the open fire part.
When we do them, you get a sharp knife and make an X in the middle of them, because when you roast them they will pop open and I have seen some really messy ovens because of that. We get our heavy cast iron pan fill it with sea salt and put the chestnuts in there and cook them.
