Hey ladies,

I am 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery and the second day after surgery I got my period. Unfortunetly it is still here. Anyone have this happen to them? It seems really bad this time, but then again I can't take motrin like I use to before surgery. Tylenol is not helping the cramps.

Just wanted to see if anyone else experianced this.

Mine started the day after surgery and went for a while but I have always had irregular periods.  I had one for a week before surgery and it stopped and then started again and lasted a while.  I am pretty sure this is normal.

I started Saturday before my surgery on a Monday. So June 6th and it lasted till June 27th. And I have been regular since (always irregular before) and I PMS like a mad woman now everyone runs for cover and my periods are 10 times more painful then ever before.

Sorry I am no ray of sunshine.

I had a hysterectomy year ago so I dont know from personal experience but this seems to be a very common occurrence. I have read many times on other boards about this happening shortly after surgery because of all the homonal changes. This happening also means you are very fertile so birth control, two types, even, is a must.

Yes its very normal.  Your body has gone through a huge change, and your hormones are more than likely also going to take some dips.  (Are you crying yet? If not, that might start soon).  You may feel depressed.  Hang in there.  It will be on the up side soon.

Also, Karen is SO RIGHT.  You need to get on some birth control.  And, use 2 forms like she said.  You should talk this over with your gynecologist and make sure that he/she is up on the wls issues.  Not all birth controls are good for you.  Not all of them are able to be chewed.  My gyn said that Mirena, Nuva Ring are among the best ones for us to use, as well as the Depo Provera shot.  Make sure condoms are involved, unless you are planning to get pregnant.  And, can't remember right off who your surgeon is, but many don't want you to get pregnant (planned or otherwise) for at least a year after wls.

I have been crying lately. I thought it was just me...lol. I had a Mirena Iud put in in April to handle the birth control situation cause I don't handle the pill very well. Thanks guys for all your input!

Now with Mirena, you may experience some symptoms that are similiar to perimenopause...
*hot flashes
*cold feet & hands
*insomnia
*exhaustion
*painful joints

Mirena mimicks perimenopause.  Oh joy!  Lol.  But, hang in there.  The gyn said that was her best option for me esp since I don't want to get pregnant.  Plus it helps with the PCOS issues... not sure if you've had that problem.  Take care.

You ladies are scaring me. I have been on Depo shots for 14 years and have not had a period since. I think I would pass out if I ever have another period. Do you think this could happen to me too? I am scheduled for my next injection the first week of October, now I'm thinking about having it this weekend instead. My surgery is Monday!

Wow you have been on Depo for 14 years! I thought they quit doing those shots. I don't think you will have any problems since you have been on it so long. I just got my IUD in April and they said it would take 6 months for my body to get regular. Then the surgery didn't help either, also I have lost like 40 pounds since August 3rd, from the liquid diet.

Good luck to you girl...don't let my hormonal rants scare you. HeHe...

Do you think I should take something with me to the hospital just in case? My surgeons office recommended it in their paperwork but didn't think it applied to me since I hadn't had a period in 14 years. What do you think? I don't even know where that stuff is in Walmart. LOL
