Tummy Tuck ?s
REPOST FROM PLASTICS
Hello All,
I've make the commitment to the Tummy Tuck. I had my breast lift & Face lift last Oct. and at the time decided that Spanx girdle would be enough for Tummy...I have decided I was wrong. This is my last surgery...The final act in my transformation from Fat Caterpillar to Thin Butterfly (LOL).I feel really good about my inner Woman & I just want my outer to match. So...for the Questions:
1) I have a very low pain threshold, though I DID survive, none the worse for wear, Face Lift, Breast Lift & Inverted Nipple Surgery(Nipples hurting WORST).
How much more painful was TT from other surgeries? How long before pain was "manageable? How long did you need help? If desk job, how long before back to work? How long to sleep in your own bed? Was it worth the pain? Happy Witt TE or wish you'd had Belt Abdominalplasty?
Too many questions...SORRY!!!
Any assistance will be appreciated.
Thank You

I was able to go back to work in 2 wks. I had a desk job. I had a breast reduction several years ago, also, wisdom teeth removal, rny, gallbladder removal... but by far the tummy tuck was the hardest for me to go through. I don't know if it was because I had an emergency gallbladder removal just one month prior to having the tummy tuck and my body was just not ready... but it was very difficult. I had a muscle repair done at the same time (that part was cosmetic, all of it was paid out of my pocket). That in itself I believe also made things a little harder.
Routine things such as getting out of bed, standing up, sitting down are all very hard because you use your stomach muscles to do those things. You never realize how much, until the muscle repair is done! Even lowering yourself onto the toilet and getting back hurts! You will probably want to look towards the toilet tank, hold on, carefully use your legs to lower yourself, and use it also to pull yourself up again. Don't have any "wise guys" around either. Laughing is very hurtful! It pulls those stomach muscles, and wowsers! Yes I was happy with my results HOWEVER I still wish to this day that I had gotten the anchor cut. It would have cinched up the loose skin on my tummy (up and down). I can still feel the bones on my hips, and probably always will. But, the weight I gain will all be in the upper abdomen.
I actually slept in a chair, in a recliner, in the bed... a few hours here, a few hours there... it was easiest to stack up gobs of pillows on the back of the headboard and lean against those. Even leaning back in a chair uses muscles that you weren't aware of, so the pillows help you stay forward enough that you don't hurt.
AND ALSO! ONE VERY IMPORTANT KEY THING TO REMEMBER! People get depressed after having plastic surgery. I did not know this. I did not expect this. Others who have had plastics here on the board have also encountered it. You would think that having finally "wrapping up the journey" with plastics, it would be a happy time. I don't know why, or how... maybe you have already expeirenced this since you had plastics done already but the few I know who had tummy tucks, body lifts did get depressed. So you will want to be on the lookout for this to occur, and be able to discuss this with someone close to you, a counselor/therapist, or maybe your pcp if you need some anti depressant medication.

After my wls, I could go out shopping the first week. I had to rest a lot when I got tired... but with the tummy tuck, I didn't want to go anywhere. I slept a lot, rested, and slept more. I didn't leave the house unless someone was with me. I stayed with my mom and dad for about 3 days or so... then went home. tim worked during the day... I took care of myself, but like I said, I slept a lot. Watched tv some, fell asleep while watching tv, lol... but overall, it was not a very fun recovery. I did not enjoy it very much.
I'm glad you posed this question. I revisited a board this week that I had forgotten about. MakeMeHeal.com is a great place to ask questions, get information and its all about every type of plastics procedure that is out there. You should visit there, find out what all is available, and also join the forums.
