Hi, I have had 4 of 5 iron infusions and after the 4th one, I developed severe diareaha. Initially thought to be side effect of the infusions.  This has been going on for a week now, I am having accidents in my clothes, in bed...it is insane.EVERYTHING goes right through me. The doctor prescribed immodium, it hasn't helped much. So we called the after hours nurse today and she spoke with Dr Williams and now they think it is side effect of the gall bladder removal I had 6 weeks after my RNY.

I am so sore, my entire stomach/belly are is so sore, I get nauseaus just smelling food. I am drinking and taking my vitamins, but I'm not even getting in all my protein. So, today they prescribed a stronger medication, and that is where I am at now.

My question for everyone is, I have been so careful to not eat simple carbs, I'm still early out, but I am trying to have some oatmeal to help my tummy feel better. It is Sams brand, sugar free, 100 calories, 2 gr fat, 18 gr carbs with 3 fiber, and 0 sugars. Is this gonna hurt me in the long run more than help me....

I need to try to get some type food in me. I am so weak, I just need to get over this, any suggestions?

HELP!!

Immediately, I thought of gallbladder.  I had those problems after mine was removed.  Everything made me sick.  You may want to stay away from:  all nuts, brocolli & cauliflower, jalapenos, peanut butter, caffeine, these things will aggravate it. I've also heard that chicken & eggs are hard on the gallbladder and even though you have it removed, those things can still be hard to digest.  ONce I had a mock dumping episode on chicken breast as crazy as that sounds... I know it wasn't dumping, but it made me really sick (diarrhea) after eating ONLY chicken breast, nothing else...  and after hearing that it chicken was hard on the body, I stayed clear of that for quite awhile.  Also, anything with seeds (pickles, cucumbers, strawberries, brocolli, blackberries) will aggravate it.

Also, you may want to buy Mccann's steal cut oatmeal.  It will help you stay full longer than just the regular oatmeal, its better for you (well, as far as types of oatmeals) though I would not have chosen to do oatmeal that early on after surgery and still in losing stages...  but since you are struggling to find something...  you could put a scoop of protein powder in your oatmeal and that could help you get protein in as well as balance out the protein/carb ratio...  I used to get sick on oatmeal since it was too high of carbs...  the protein powder seemed to help.

You may want to go back to some soft foods such as ricotta cheese dishes, custard type of dishes, jellos, etc.  Stay clear of spicy foods for sure.,

Hi Mel,

Thanks for your suggestions.  That was my concern with the oatmeal as well....but it is not having an issue right now.  I will just figure it into my daily numbers.  Dairy doesn't agree with me much either....even before surgery, so I am really struggling to find a balance.
