OMG...I dumped....holy cow!!! Graphic! I have no pride left!
Okay--for those of you who don't know me, I had RNY with Dr. Houston 5 months ago (on St. Patrick's Day). I have lost 108 pounds, am about 30 pounds from goal and have never dumped, that is, until today.
First, let me say I didn't eat anything knowingly that would make me dump. I follow the plan pretty closely & really wanted to believe I would/could dump, so I never tested it because I was scared I wouldn't dump & I might go back to my old bad habits of being a sugar addict. Well, today I got my answer.
I went to Target & got my son the popcorn combo that comes with a drink. Now, this is a special treat for him once in a blue moon b/c I am very careful re: what my kiddos eat ...and, typically, buttered popcorn is not on their menu. But, I have the Target person only fill the bag 1/8 full & it's a small portion, so it's acceptable. It comes with a soft-drink, which my kiddos don't drink, so I got him a bottled water & was going to get a cup of ice for the Crystal Light I had in my purse when I saw that they advertised "5 calorie per serving" lemonade. I asked the worker if it was Crystal Light and he said no, but they had Crystal Lite Lemonade behind the counter. I asked if it had ice & he said he would pour it in the cup of ice I had for me.
I drank about 1/4 of the cup and about 5-10 minutes later I started to feel like I was running a fever. I was sweating (it was enough to bead up on my face!) and I started to get cramps. Hummm, I thought, is it that time of the month? Nope...what in the world...h1n1 flu? Bird Flu? Probably not.....then, I got very, very, very dizzy. I felt like I needed to sit down & then, quickly, I got my chance! I had to run (I mean...RUN!) to the bathroom because my body was purging itself of whatever the heck was in that lemonade....(aka SUGAR & CARBS!)...(Side Note: 2 year old little boys think that it is hilarious when mommy is running & pushing them in the Target cart...he was saying, "more, more, mommy, that's fast").
I didn't know if I needed to sit on the toilet or vomit first, but it didn't matter---it was simultaneous. Horrible...I mean...HORRIBLE. My poor son (who, actually, thought it was quite a show--he was laughing & eating his popcorn like it was a twisted Disney movie) had to witness it. I am sure I scarred him for life!
I spent about 20 minutes in a horrible condition in the bathroom....I felt like I was going to pass out---I really think I may have except for the fear that my head would touch a public toilet and, since I am a total germ-a-phobe, a public bathroom is the last place I want myself, or my son, to spend 20 minutes--passed out or not.
Of course, at some point I had to leave because I had to pick up my girls from school....I thought it all would never end. I worried about driving, so I texted my husband, who couldn't get to the girls' schools in time....so, I had NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE (okay...this is TMI, but away we go...), I had to run to the car & get my 3 year old's little Elmo potty that we keep in the back of the SUV for "potty training emergencies".. it has disposable potty bags, so, I buckled my 2 year old in, put a towel down on the seat of the SUV, then the Elmo potty and (yup, you guessed it)...I freakishly drove down the road sitting on the Elmo potty with a barf bag next to me and another towel over me!!! I am sure that is a clear violation of the Tennessee Vehicle Code in some way shape or form (not to mention public indecency laws! However, on a positive note, 108 pounds ago I would have been wedged so deeply into that Elmo potty that it would have taken surgery to remove it! Luckily, I was able to fit right on it....er, did I just say "luckily"?).
At any rate, I had to pull over before I got to my daughter's school, get my capris back on & clean things up & put away the Elmo potty for fear that one of the school staff would see me & call Child Protective Services saying I had lost my mind. Of course, that was all well & good until 10 minutes after I picked her up & another wave hit me....where does it all come from....I mean, I haven't eaten that much food in 5 months!!!
After I made it home & was able to think (it was a few hours) I called Target...I knew it had to be the lemonade, because I had only had a Carb Master yogurt that morning & was fine.....of course, I got the news that the guy working at Target had no idea what he was talking about & that the lemonade behind the counter was not sugar free Crystal Light (I am going to track him down & beat him with the Elmo potty tomorrow!) & that it, in fact, is full sugar lemonade!!!
I'm still not "right". I haven't been able to eat for the rest of the day--I am so thirsty & my stomach is doing flips & aches (of course, my husband reminds me that I don't really have a "stomach" & that I really have an "esophagus ache"--cute, eh?)....it's been about 8 hours & I still feel like I could be sick at any minute.
I don't know how much sugar 1/4 of a lemonade has in it...but, it is way past my max.....if there was ever a moment I wanted to taste sugar again, it was flushed away today!!
Yuck! Yuck! Yuck! What a day!
I hope you are feeling better now.
Karen
Yes...my dumper works! I am thankful for that...good to know.
I can't even look at the Crystal Light Lemonade packets in my kitchen...queezy!
The bad news: My experience.
The good news (although probably temporary)...a 2.8 pound weight loss today......and I made it to the 170s! Just 24 pounds to goal ****il tomorrow when/if the water weight comes back.....).
I've been very lucky to not "test" if I have a Dum*****t.
Sometimes I feel like I've eaten too much or the wrong kind of food (i.e. Soy milk from Starbucks) but nope... not once that I've dumped.
I know that you do this, but I always make sure of what I eat out, I know EXACTLY what is in it. When I get a Starbucks I ALWAYS ask if it was made with sugar free syrup, sometimes I've asked several times, and also make sure that I tell them that I'm hyper-sensative to sugar. Luckly the one that I go to, they all know so they make sure that my drink is made correctly.
I did have one scare once, and that was at Starbucks... I asked for the 2nd time if my drink was made sugar free, as they were handing it to me out the window. First they said yes, and then someone behind them said no! YIKES could have been a bad morning that day!
Sorry to hear tho... Think of it this way - you may have lost a few more pounds! But be sure to get in plenty of fluids!!
Michael.
Sugar free syrup at Starbucks? I didn't know that....I love decaf w/sf cream, so....well, I will give it a week or two, but that sounds yummy.
So glad they caught their mistake before you drank that!!! I try to be so careful...in fact, we went from a family who use to eat out 4-6 times/week to eating out MAYBE one time per month....I guess I must have been the one who always wanted to eat out!! I am very careful about what I eat...now I am going to be anal retentive (no pun intended) about it!!
And...you're right...I lost almost 3 pounds today....what a way to do it, though....and it will probably even out tomorrow because I do feel dehydrated! Still, I made it to the 170s & I only have 24 more pounds to goal!!!
They have the following flavors in sugar free:
Vanilla
Caramel
Cinnamon Dolce (MY FAV!)
Hazelnut
I may have missed one.
They just reintroduced the Pumpkin Spice latte, but no SF for that flavor... oh well.
Make sure you get in your fluids so that you are not hospitalized.
Michael.
