Anyone from Crossville or even Cookeville?

Hi all,

I live in Crossville and I am looking for anyone here (or Cookeville) that has had the surgery or getting ready to have it.

I would like to chat about getting started and where to go.

I have done some research and read lots on this Forum and learned alot.

I do believe that I would prefer to have the Gastric Bypass and read alot about Dr. Houston and like what I read.

So anyone from this area share your experience with me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello Rhonda, I live in Cookeville.  I am seeking Dr. Houston as well.  Although I would probably be no help @ this point, I myself am in the process of ins approval.  I want the DS,  Have you researched the DS?  It is a wonderful tool and it also has the greatest excess weight loss%, as well as maintaining weight loss years out., there are @ least 3 DSers that live in Cookeville that I have found on OH.....If I can be of any help, just let me know.....                              

How about next Saturday? We will decide on the restaurant after we see if people can come next weekend. I would love to meet you.

Felicia, I do hope you will meet with us next Saturday. You will learn so much from this group of DSers. They have done great with their tools. We
should have atleast 1 more pre-op that I work with, she is waiting on approval from ins. also. I will invite her to come . Look for a future post about where we will meet sometime this week on this board or I will pm you.

Hey there Rhonda welcome.  I do not live in Cookeville or Crossville but I did have the DS with Dr. Houston and he is amazing.   I also know people who had the RNY with him and they love the tool he gave them.  Like the previous poster said - there are 4 DSer's in Cookeville that I know about (3 from Dr. Houston, 1 from Dr. Spaw)  There is a support group there once a month too - I think you can find that info on the website www.cmcwls.com under events.   That might be a great way to meet and chat with people who are in all different stages of weight loss surgery. 

Hello, Rhonda!  As John said, there is a support group that meets the second Weds of every month @ 5:30 in the Education Center at Cookeville Regional.  We have a nice size group with people who have had band, the RNY, and the DS.  The group is open to anyone so we have people from the programs at Baptist, Vandy, Centennial, and even the Knoxville area hospitals.  Come to a meeting and get to know some of us.

I had the DS with Dr. Houston.  I work with 3 ladies who had him as their surgeon for the RNY and one who is on our insurance's program for getting approval.  She will more than likely go with Dr. Houston as well.  I joke that if you work where we do, you have to have Dr. Houston as a condition of employment.  However, I seriously repect him and his talents.  Dr. Olsen came to our support meeting in June and I was very impressed with him as well.  Have you been to a seminar at Centennial yet?  That is a good place to start since you actually can talk to one of the surgeons.  You can learn about all the surgery options since they do the Big 4:  Lapband, VSG, RNY, and DS.

How are you for next Saturday?

I would rather meet like we did last time. How about everyone else ?  It's more one on one with people. I've been swamped with crazy stuff this past
