Impossible
I just got my labs back from my one year post-op appointment and my PTH levels were high. My calcium was fine but an elevated PTH is a sign that your body is taking calcium from you bones.
The solution is to up my calcium intake to 2400 mg a day. EXCEPT your body can't absorb more than 600 mg at a time and I can't take it with my iron or with my multi-vitamin (I take Centrum and it has iron in it) so the only way for me to get that much calcium in is to take pills six times a day.
My vitamin D levels were still low also so I will be back to taking that supplement daily for a while. Which according to one article I found can also impact my PTH so hopefully that will help.
I really can't imagine that getting meds in six times a day is even possible since I waste lots of time doing things like working and sleeping. But I am doing a lot of things that a year ago I thought were impossible so I am going to do my best so I can stay healthy.
And "Dr. Internet" scared the heck out of me yesterday while I was researching PTH levels and parahyperthyroid. Luckily it was after hours or I would have scheduled myself for a CT Scan, an appointment with an endocrinologist, and a bone density scan...but I think I have calmed down some.
