PETA ad - discriminatory against those with obesity
I am very proud to serve on the board of directors for the Obesity Action Coalition, in part because they bring issues such as this to our attention.
OAC Calls on PETA to Immediately End Campaign Stigmatizing Overweight and Obese Individuals - I encourage you to respond! Please click on the link below for details. I refuse to post the ad as I do not want to give them additional exposure. Included on the OAC site is contact information if you would like to notify PETA of your displeasure with this current ad.

I just ignore PETA. I think that they are very skewed in their reasoning behind what they feel is "right", in reguard to eating meat, or any of the other stange things that they think is wrong.
I'm a huge meat eater, and Man has always eaten meat... it is part of our history and the way that we were "made".
We raise animals to be food, we also do not waste much if any, but PETA would like for you believe that they do.
I'm not trying to offend anyone, but to each their own, and everyone has an opinion. I choose to eat meat, have pets, etc, no one is going to stop me from that. It is a way of life. My cats are very happy and always have fresh food and water and love. Something that they would not get by living wild.
I still think that them using the billboard is just wrong, but people eating meat does not make you fat, or obese... eating in excess or a medical condition causes that. We know that very healthy people who eat meat and are just fine. Just another "skewed" and misinformed piece of information. Most people will just ignore that billboard.
Oh well...
Michael.

Damn straight, my Bobness!!! I love me some tasty animals, especially with a good BBQ sauce!!!! (I've also heard it called People Eating Tasty Animals, hee hee)
The ad is pretty awful and disrespectful. I won't post it but I'll summarize it: It says something along the lines of "lose the blubber--go vegetarian." And it has an image of an obese woman's torso from behind, wearing a bikini. Totally offensive.
Besides, just being a vegetarian does not automatically make someone thin and healthy. Sheesh. I had a sickly boss years ago--she was vegetarian and subsisted on Doritos and M&M's. Yeah, now THAT'S a great, balanced diet!!
I'm just confused about the E in PETA. There's nothing "ethical," at all about those people. If they were ethical, they wouldn't put up billboards like that that are so insulting to so many.
PETA this!

It just reinforces that we are the last group that it's still "okay" to make fun of...ugh.

Totally. I'd like to see how far they'd get saying something like "Be less gay--go vegetarian," or "Be less ethnic! Go vegetarian!" It's ridiculous.
I'm with you, too, on this seriously affecting teenage girls who are in a rough enough spot emotionally as it is. Fast bus to eating disorder land. (Not that Peta would create it, but in a girl who is already suffering from a fragile self esteem and is already using food to soothe or using food as a control issue, seeing something like that could definitely affect her judgement.)
