Well I have 10 more days of my pre-op liquid diet. So far 21 pounds I have lost. I am getting excited even before surgery of the difference I am starting to feel.

Going this weekend to finalize my decision on protien and supplements after surgery I can't seem to make up my mind and I need to get on it.

Had my pre-op clas for Dr. Dyer Tuesday I am a little freaked out about having a central line, and still the possibility of it being open and not laproscopic. However I have to realize they know what they are doing.

Starting to feel the pressure from everyone around me "Am I sure this is what I need to do?" " Why can't you just continue the liquid diet till you get where you want to be?"

They don't understand my decision, and I guess they don't have to. Thanks everyone for letting me rant on here. Have a good day!!

August 24th here I come.....

I guess people don't understand that you cannot live on a liquid diet forever!  I felt the same way, but i was telling myself that.

However here I am at 1 year out and lost all my excess weight and if asked would I do it again... HECK YEA!!! In a heartbeat.

The thing about RNY is that it will make you be very mindful of what you eat, all the choices that you must make, etc.  This hold true for any WLS.

We do not see people that only have a few pounds to loose have WLS.  The people that have it are extreamly overweight and causing other health issues that we would generally not have if not obese.

I know that I may have been able to loose SOME weight on a liquid diet, and been happy about it, but I would have gained it back... countless times it has happened!

You are doing what YOU must do to get healthy.  You surgeon would not perform this surgery if he felt that you may not need it.

Good luck!!

Tell those people who are asking why you don't just continue the liquid diet to try it themselves for just a couple of days. They would see just what a living hell it is!

You are off to a great start and I'm sure you will continue to do well after surgery.

For your post-op protein I would go with samples until you find what is best suited to you after surgery. We have all found that what we like and can tolerate pre-op is not always what we can tolerate post-op.

After surgery there is no such thing as forcing something down to keep from wasting it. If something doesn't sit right it is not staying down...period!

There are too many good protein options out there to have to choke something down.

Thats part of the reason why I won't buy Unjury unless it is last resort I didn't like the samples I got. Centennial told me Tuesday about a GNC AMP that you only have to drink one I believe and it is your full day of protien for stage1. If anyone out there has tried it let me know.

Going to look into Isopure too this weekend....

Thanks guys for listening.

Off to get my lunch drink...lol

Have you tried any of the Nectar proteins?

My all time favorite is the Cappuccino but then I am a coffee nut. Anything coffee flavored is my friend.

I also like the Chocolate Truffle and the Strawberry Mousse.

These stir into water very easily so you don't even need a blender to mix them. They have 90 cal; 0 carbs; and 23 grams protein per scoop.

I lived on the GNC Amp my first week after surgery.  I prefered the blue raspberry, tasted like a melted rocket popsicle.  The fruit punch to me tasted bitter...I know that sounds odd but it did.  I just split it into 3 separate drinks during the day and got my protein in that way.  I didn't care for the Isopure, it was too sweet for me.

But that's just my tastes after surgery, you may like the isopure.

Well, sure.   Of course you could stay on your liquid diet and lose the rest of your weight.   If you were some kind of automaton.   Can you imagine?

Whenever you have a big change in your calorie intake, you lose weight quickly like that for a while.   But as time goes by, the returns from whatever you've been doing for any length of time diminish.   So you would have to decrease the amount of your liquid diet and/or increase your activity   You have to keep doing something to "up the ante" in order to keep losing weight at a decent rate.

So cutting back from what you're doing now?   Not likely to produce enough energy for you to move around and exercise.   Do we think that losing muscle mass and bone density is a good idea?   They are sure to happen on a regime like that.

And then, if by some miracle, you'd managed to lose an appreciable amount of weight on the liquid diet - what about when you finish?   You go back on food?   How's that going to work for you without some sort of tool to keep you from gradually and slowly or quickly getting into some pretty bad eating habits.  Especially if you've spent a great deal of time on a liquid diet with no experience and framework to handle the new eating program.

I know....   You know all this.   You've done your research and you're preparing to have WLS.   But don't you wish you could make everybody understand how this really works?  I used to be a computer system manager, and people would say "can't you just push a button and do this?"   Admittedly, they were not the most intelligent bunch inn the world.   Which I guess it's not so surprising that it's the same kind of non-informed, non-well-thought out question as "can't you just stay on your liquid diet?"

I hope you're able to show the people who are giving you stick now that you're setting yourself up for the best possible life for the rest of your life.   I hope everything goes super-smoothly!

Thanks for breaking down the reality of the prolonged liquid diet. Can I print this out to all my family  members?

I know I can not go on like this forever I tried going to the gym the other day and almost passed out I was so weak. People kill me untill they walk through it themselves they do not understand.  Thanks Dennie!

Sure.   If you like, let me know and I could explain the physiology of why any diet works for everybody for a short amount of time.    Do you think they might understand it?

Good luck!

I'm going to say this, for JUST this one time!!  Skip the gym for right now.  You need to continue to prepare for surgery, and shrink your liver.

Right now your body is not getting enough "energy" to survive and to try to workout, but you are in the mindset that you feel that you need to pu**** and pu**** hard!  Save that for after surgery.

Now this does not mean to remain seditary.  Go out for a walk, or if you feel that you need to go to the gym, only about 30 minutes on the treadmill should be sufficent.

If at ANY point you feel light headed, or feel as if you will pass out, please STOP!!

Now once you are post-op and cleared from your surgeon to begin workouts, have at it!!
