Vaca in Seiverville
My hubby and I are renting a cabin in TN the week of 8/10 and I thought I'd come to the TN board to see if anyone has any suggestions on a good place to eat either breakfast or dinner. I'd really love to stop at a Chicken and Waffle House -- I've heard some real interesting things about this place, but didn't see you guys have one in this area -- or even in TN, for a matter of fact.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I'd like to try some area cuisine that I can't get in Michigan. (Hoping to stop at Sonic -- see the commercials ALL THE TIME, so I'm real happy to see there's one in the area.)
Can't wait to try the zip line tour - something I probably wouldn't have even thought about three years ago!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I live in Sevierville. Honey, Sonic food is horrible! For a great breakfast, go to the Apple Barn restaurant. For a fabulous dinner, go to Bull Fish Restaurant in Pigeon Forge on the Parkway just past traffic light number 2. Share an entree! Or, eat the fried green tomatoes appetizer, it's more than enough for our tiny tummies! Bull Fish is the best restaurant is the area hands down except for the Bear creek Grill on Hwy 321 in Gatlinburg which is quite pricy. Best Italian in Gatlinburg is also excellent and has some delicious low carb offerings. Ogle Dog is a stand on the Parkway in gatlinburg that has great dogs and smoked sausage with onions and peppers and is an east Tn institution! If you have kids, don't miss Wonder Works or MagiQuest in PigeonForge! and of course....the NATIONAL PARK which is free!!!!! Be sure to get out of your car and walk some of the trails. Hope you have a good time!
I LOVED Sonic when I was preop. They have good burgers. Not many good choices though for a weight loss surgery patient. I do love the fact that they use crushed ice. Their diet cherry limeade is wonderful and refreshing. I haven't eaten there since surgery. About all I would try now would be the meat off a mini burger. Everything there is fried and greasy and extra large in size. In a pinch, the popcorm chicken might be okay but usually its very dry. I would be afraid, knowing my pouch, to attempt it.
I hope you have a good visit. Most of our favorite restaurants are in Knoxville. However, Red Lobster is good here if you don't mind the wait. Logan's Roadhouse is one of my favorites. I also love Outback and Texas Roadhouse. Lots of protein choices at steak houses. My husband loves The Gondolier Italian Restaurant. Not many choices for weight loss surgery patients, but great food. I usually get the chopped steak. It is smothered in onions, mushrooms, and provolone cheese. Love their caeser salad too.

Poor Sonic...Sonic has great unsweet Peach Iced tea--you can add a sweetener if you like! They will probably give you sweet tea at first(everybody down here wants sweet tea) but just send it back and reiterate "UNSWEET". They have shaved ice so this is an extra special treat for me. Food is not great for us "surgically altered freaks", but they do have gilled chicken. They also have Minute Maid Lite lemonade -- YUM! Welcome to the south! Erika
Thanks for the info on Sonic. I'm over three years out, maintaining, and can eat almost anything with no problem. Never even heard of iced tea until I moved to Michigan, and can't stand it. Don't know if I'd try sweet tea, as I tend to stay away from sugars as much as possible, even though they don't bother me too much. Not willing to take the chance when I'm on vacation, though. Perhaps my hubby will try it and I can take a sip, just to see what it tastes like.
I'm REALLY looking forward to my vacation. We haven't been on a real vacation for almost 20 years (I don't count camping in my own state), and we're going all out, despite the fact that almost everything will be going on the credit card :) Can't take it with ya, now can you?
Thanks, everyone!

Thanks, Sunshine, for your response. All of the restaurants you mentioned, other than the Italian one, we have in Michigan. I do love a good steakhouse. There are Logan's in the bigger cities, but we also have a Lone Star in my area, which is just as good.
Can't wait for the vaca -- I hope the weather there is better than it's been in Michigan. We've only had one day in July that was above average -- 24 were below average. (Had to turn the heat on in June!)

It has been a little cooler than normal for this time of year but still fairly hot. You wont need a heater. Having some rainy days right now. Hopefully that will be gone when you get here. There are some other good local restaurants I can share that arent chains, but like I said, the best ones are in Knoxville. If you will have internet access while you are here, PM me and I will give you some more suggestions.
