2009 Losing To Live Retreat REPORT
Good morning everybody,
Well I think the committee has recovered enough to make a report!!!
First of all, THANK YOU, each and everyone who came to the 2009 Losing To Live Retreat. We had such a good time.
Our speakers out did themselves.
What a way to start off the Retreat. Dr. Frye is amazing isn't she? Friday night she got us all geared up for what was in store. She prepared us for personal reflection and opened our mind to the journey's obstacles and acceptance of those obstacles.
The insight that Dr. Frye possesses is exactly why she is so loved by the Committee. Her caring and her dedication to weight challenged people is unprecedented.
Pat Guy, WOW, what a motivatiional speaker he is!!! Never would have dreamed we would be starting Saturday's session with a BASEBALL. A Baseball that I now have on my computer desk to look at each and everytime I look up to my screen. What a message he imparted to us. One that will keep us inspired each and every day if we only read that Baseball's notes.
Lesa Franklin had a wonderful session including a handout and taking questions. Lesa is one of us, and her journey has been amazing. She started her journey before WLS was mainstream. When there wasn't the support out there that there is now. Her insight and her experiences helped many of us. Thank you Lesa. YOU ROCK!!
The Key Note speakers were the Surgeons. Dr. Hugh Houston from Centennial, Dr. Albert Spaw from Baptist, and Dr. Wayne Westmoreland from Murfreesboro.
The informal setting was relaxed and the questions posed to the Doctors were challenging. Comments from the Doctor's afterwards were "Thank you, this was very nice. We, as doctors, do not get together like this very often." Some of the questions submitted brought about many comments and some very informative and even opposing views. One of the questions even stumped the doctors. I bet they all three were looking up TOGA on Monday. LOL
Oh and what can we say about that Western Grill and the KARAOKE. WOW. The food was fabulous, although my goodness, we could have fed 100 WL buddies.
We found some untapped talent and had some wonderful laughs. Crystal and Adam, our DJ's, although not Country Music fans, had some of the best selections. Why we even got Paul and Tammy to sing "Whose Gonna Fill Their Shoes".
Come Sunday morning, we were all feeling the fatigue. But when we had a nice breakfast, and David Griffin walked in, the fatigue turned to sitting on the edge of your seat with anticipation of hearing what his life had been like since he went down his weight loss journey by being a "TV STAR".
I think the most surprising part of his journey was his humbleness, his sense of humor, (the show brought out the "nice guy") and his genuine caring for the plight of the obese.
And you know what? ALL of the SPEAKERS expressed their gratitude in being asked to participate and have pledged their support and clout to promote the Losing To Live message. The Committee has been asked to please extend the invitation again next year.
Last but not least, Paul and LaRhonda, THANK YOU both for your dedication and your support. Your networking in the Nashville area brought to us the nice accommodations, the food and the atmosphere.
To my fellow committee members. Gosh, guys, we made it another year!!
