Hey everyone,

I am having a difficult time finding a protein powder/mix that I enjoy.  I used to like Syntha six, but no longer, cause it makes me sick.  Any suggestions on a good tasting protein powder mix?

Thanks,
Preacher Mike

I use Max Protein from GNC. The chocolate tastes just like a YooHoo!

I like the Max Protein too. It actually tastes good. I'm thankful to have found it, 'cause I couldn't tolerate some of the others I tried.

The reason you get sick on the syntha 6 (as yummy as it is) is because its high in carbs.  And remember, liquids absorb quickly.  So you're having a reaction/response to the carbs in the shake.  Now, they are yummy.  Tim my boyfriend drinks 2 of them a day.  He says that they taste more like a real strawberry milkshake than anything he has ever tasted (other than the REAL thing).  Keep in mind that these were made for weight lifters...  and I saw several at Vitamin Shoppe a few weeks ago drooling over the Syntha 6, and one was grabbing at the new caramel latte flavor that's out...  I'm not saying you shouldn't use them...  just that they aren't for the carb sensitive.

The Syntha 6 is made by BSN which also has another kind called Lean Dessert.  It is half the price, comes in a smaller container and has a variety of flavors including:  Banana Cream, Banana Nut Bread, Cinnamon Roll, Chocolate Pudding, and Whipped Vanilla.  These are better stat wise and should not make you sick.  I do not drink these, however.  I use them to make protein baked goods.  I make a fabulous (if I do say so myself) sugar free banana chocolate peanut butter protein bread (using LD Banana Cream), and a cinnamon raisin nut protein bread (using LD Cinnamon Roll).

Anyway, as for Chocolate flavors, my all time favorite is Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Stack Chocolate.  It's delish!  Coming in next would be the Lean Dessert Chocolate Pudding, then Matrix 5.0 Chocolate.  The Nectar Chocolate Truffle has low stats, however it is not too good in my opinion.  Or, not without the help of Moo Magic Sugar Free Chocolate Malt Milk Mix!  That stuff can resurrec****er into a creamy chocolate liquid! Love it.

Now, if you still have some of the syntha 6, there are some tricks that you can do to still use the rest, and enjoy it with lessening the carbs.  The question is, do you still have some, if so, what flavor and do you wish to be able to utilize this?  We'll find the answers out and then take it from there.

Thanks for the replies everyone,

Mel I do have some of that mix left over, but my wife still likes it so she will drink the shakes til it's gone.  I will go get some of the Champion brand, and give it a try.   I have heard of others recently that like that brand also.

Thanks again everyone for your advice...

Mike,

For more protein ideas and an opportunity to try some other brands of protein mixes...the August support group meeting at Baptist is going to be a protein party - a REAL protein party.

So, put August 4th at 5:30 on your calendar. We will have protein options for every stage from pre-op to maintenance.
