For those of you that don't cook nightly, what WLS friendly frozen dinners do you eat that can be purchased at most grocery stores? I found a Lean Cuisine- Roasted Garlic Chicken that has great stats, but I can't eat this every day unless I want burn out.

Have any of you stumbled across any frozen dinner gems?

Thanks for sharing.

Nope.  I don't eat frozen diners.  Too much sodium, and way too many have lots of carbs.

I cook my meals on sunday and will eat off them for the whole week.  Sometimes I will treat myself with the occasional eating out, but mostly I eat at home, and also take my lunch.

If you HAD to eat a frozen dinner, I would stick with ones from Lean Cuisne, and that do not have any pasta, potatoes or bread in them.  There were a couple that I had at pre-op that I liked (Beef medalions with brocolli, and a chicken one)

There are plenty that you can eat, but again be careful with the amount of salt.

My opinion.

I asked Tim, "How often do I eat frozen dinners?" He bust out laughing!  Can you believe that?  He said he thinks he saw me eat it one time in the 2 yrs we've been together!  Oh lord.  He sure notices me. LOL.  Anyway, I do buy Lean Cuisine and Smart Ones (there are only one or two at the most in each brand that are fairly reasonable stats).  I mostly take them to work and use them in a pinch, when there is absolutely nothing else to eat in our cafeteria at work...

The ones I like are the turkey and green beans in Lean Cuisine, there is also another one that is beef medallions like Michael said... I am not one for beef but that one, I like.  I don't buy the ones with pasta, rice, mashed potatoes or those candied apple things.  I dont buy any with bread either.

Yes those are fine.

Again the sodium is high.

Go to Bariatriceating.com and they have lots of recipes that are great that have better stats than that.

Again, my opinion.

I don't eat them either any more.   But the one I liked the best when I was doing the two-meals-liquid protein and one meal lean cuisine was the Rosemary Chicken.   It's got a lot of rice in it for me now, but my grandson still loves them.   He's just 3 years old so I put a dab of butter in there for him.   Dn't want to low-fat a growing boy.

I take a frozen dinner most everyday to work although we have a cafeteria, BECAUSE I know the stats on the frozen dinner where I don't know how things are cooked in the cafeteria.

The BEST ones were the "South Beach" dinners -- but I can't find those anymore.  I do several of the "Healthy Choices" versions but do not pick varieties that don't fit the STATS

Alway try to do at least 20g Protein, user general rule of no more that 300 calories and what the carbs and sodium -- I think you could do that with most varieties and of course if you want low carb it's mainly going to shy away from anything with a lot of pasta, rices, etc....   READ the labels would be my advice.

But using Frozen dinners seems to work for me fine.

Not a frozen dinner but Wendy's Chili is a good change of pace high in protein low in sodium and calories. C'ya Bob

I got an email yesterday from Atkins and they are coming out with a new line of frozen dinners.  They will have pizza and pasta entrees and while I don't know the stats, i am at least interested in seeing what they have to offer.  While I dont rely on these as an ongoing source of food, the occasional monthly frozen dinner at work is ok wiht me.  I don't eat a lot of sodium so this is not an issue for me.

I don't do frozen dinners...I agree, the sodium is way too high.  And, as a Dr. Houston patient, our max carbs per meal should be 5 and, my range is 400-600 calories per day with 60-80gm of protein--that might vary a little bit for males/females--I'm not sure.

Every once in a while, for convenience, I have a Boca Burger with a piece of cheese on it.  The carbs are a little high, but if I am careful for breakfast & dinner it is fine.  There are also some Cascadian Farms Chicken Tenders (that are soy based) that are good--we can have three or four of those (I still can't eat more than 1.5 at a meal). That's the extent of my "frozen" food.

Back before WLS I did Atkins & South Beach & did eat some of their meals--they are okay, but my suggestion would be to cook chicken breasts, etc. on the weekend & freeze them for easy meals...whole food is much better for you!
