Question: Things to do in Nashville.....
Hey everyone,
I was just wanting to post a quick post. Me, Mom, and Stacy have family coming in town the first full week of August. Do you guys have any good tourist attractions that are free or very cheap on the wallet?
With still not knowing too much of the "tourist" part of Nashville or surrounding communities, I'm hoping you can give me suggestions. I live in Mount Juliet so I really don't want to drive too far for the attractions.
THANKS for your help and ideas....
Tina

I would say all the "normal" things in downtown Nashville. Should take maybe 20 minutes to get down there during non rush hours from Mt Juliet.
Also check out The Hermitage. Not sure of the cost, but cannot be too expensive. Opryland Hotel is also nice. If you park on the Opry Mills side and walk over, the parking is free.
Downtown I would park at the Library garage between Commerce St and Church and 6th and 7th. If you go during Library hours, if you go inside, you will be able to get your parking validated, if not it is very inexpensive. It is only a few blocks from all the Broadway and 2nd ave "stuff".
Walk down Broadway and check out all the bars etc. (free). Go inside one or a few and maybe have a drink or two. Also same thing with 2nd ave between Broadway and about Church St.
Another thing to see is Centennial Park with the Parthenon. Not sure if there is a cost to go inside, but you can see it from the outside, and maybe take a picnic lunch and eat at the park. Parking is free at the park.
I hope that these suggesions help.
Michael.

Behind the farmer's market on Rosa Parks (used to be 8th ave) in Bicentennial Park there is a "Pathway of History" showing the history of Tennessee. If you walk towards the capital there is a fountain kids can play in (don't know if you will have children with you).
Like Michael said, Opryland is free and beautiful. There are fountain shows (at 6pm and 8pm according to the web site). There is a path from Opry Mills so you don't have to pay for parking (it goes in front of an old rapids ride and you can see the "boulders" that made up the ride).
Off of Smiths Springs Road there is a park on Percy Priest Lake where you can swim. There are also the new greenway walking paths all over that are lovely.
