Walk for obesity??
I have been searching for information about the walk for obesity event in Nashville schedule for september 19 2009.. that's about all I know. is where and when. I wondered if anyone has ever been to this event .... how many miles is it. you would think they would tell you all this... Right now iam feeling that it's not very well organize or very few attend.... iam all for being in the event this would be my second walk for a charity.. If anyone can give me some info i would appreciate it so much
Welcome!
last year was my first walk with the Walk From Obesity. It is at Centenial Park, and is the 2nd weekend in September (I think). It is a great walk, very flat and short.
Here is some information: www.walkfromobesity.com
It is 1, 2 or 3 miles. (just depends on how many times you want to walk around the track).
I hope that this helps.
Michael.

Centennial has a team. Contact Pam Davis if she doesn't answer this. The Parkers also have a team. They both have had WLS and do a dinner & lunch club. There have been posts about the walk here in the TN forum, but the search feature hasn't been useful when I looked for things in the past. If you have lots of time and don't get frustrated easily, you could try a search.

This is the link to join Centennial's team directly (whether you are a Centennial patient or not, you are welcome to be a part of our team!) We would love to have a great turnout!

Hi Kimberly,
Maybe I can provide you with some additional information. The Walk from Obesity is September 19th and will begin at 10:00 am, however you can come as early as 9:00 to 9:30 to enjoy the booths, register at the table to receive your T'shirt and goody bag. As stated the walk is a 1, 2 or 3 mile walk and on a flat surface at Centennial Park and begins at the band-shell located over by the train. You can register on-line for $25.00 per adult and children are free, but please register them as well. Advance registration will secure your T'shirt and goody bag, plus help the committee prepare for the day's events. You may join a team of your choice, individually, or start your own team and by registering on-line, you may also send e-mails to friends and they may go to your name on the Walk site and sponsor you. The Walk is a non-profit organization and therefore, your registration and the money that anyone donates is tax deductible.
The committee has worked very hard to make the best out of the Walk for several years and I am sure if you or anyone would like to volunteer, they are in great need for this and would welcome any help someone can offer, regardless of how much it may be. Please contact Phil or Cheryl Parker and/or Paul Cart aka "Lap-band Guy". I personally have been involved with the Walk for the past few years, however this year due to unforeseen cir****tances and with much regret, I have had to recently resign as the chairperson. Therefore, please feel free to help and become involved as I am sure it is very much needed. Last year, the Nashville Walk was one of the Top Fund-raising cities in the country and I look forward to seeing the walk rise above the numbers from last year.
Hope this helps!
Plus, if you need anything else, you can check out the national site at, www.walkfromobesity.com or e-mail the Nashville Walk committee at [email protected] any questions you may have, you may also contact them by mail or the following phone #
468 Craighead Street: Nashville, TN 37204 (615) 739-2606. I am positive that you will be seeing and hearing a lot more about the walk the closer it becomes to September. Hope you do decide to participate, because it is a wonderful way to meet many people in person that have faced the same challenges as you.
I am Sure You Will Enjoy the Walk!!

Hey Kimberly,
Here's the link to the Nashville Walk on September 19th. There is a list of local teams on the page and you can join one of those or start your own.
Like others have said, the full walk is 3 miles, but you can walk as little or as much as you want. There is another walk there that morning (ALS walk is at 9 am), so the Walk from Obesity is a bit later.
I'm sure the board will post more information as the date draws near. It's in a state of transition right now, but with the walk rapidly approaching I know there will be more information in short order.
This will be my first walk and I hope to see you there.
Amy---glad to see you're on the Vandy team!!! Yippeeeeee!!!
