A Day in the Life of a WLS Patient

As I was organizing my journal pages, I came across an entry dated 4/25/07. I thought that it would be good to share with all of those who may be on a plateau or stall. This shows that all of us have been there at one time or another... so just keep on persevering!

"It's been two months since measuring myself... and I have hit the dreaded stall or plateau. Let me just say that it is NO fun at all. Especially when you try and try and are doing everything right... and those stinking scales will not move.

Seems like the scale have stayed at 149 forever! I have been eating correctly but those nasty scales are FROZEN IN TIME! I have seen a lot of posts where people stall or hit a plateau and are instructed to drink more water, up the protein, cut back on carbs and calories, get off of milk products. I do need to up my fluid intake, protein levels are good, carbs & calories are at a minimum. And Lord knows I stay clear of milk! It's just that sometimes from what I have been told, our bodies just stop. I am going to "keep on keepin' on!"

Out of desparation and a need to feel good, I got out the tape measure... guess what? It showed a huge difference! Boy I am glad I took those starting measurements!"

So true! And take a look at this website I found yesterday...

http://www.fitnesspros.com/calculators/idealbodymeasurements .html

If you measure your wrist, it will give you your ideal body measurements!

I was pleasantly surprised to see how close I am to everything!

 What a great website!!!!

40-28-34!!!  Ha ha ha ha!  Apparently I will be a bit top heavy at my ideal measurements.  I'm not sure if that means post boob job or with my long, post-WLS boobies rolled up!

You will be the first to know if my waist ever gets below 30"!!!

Thanks for the link!

Ideally 42 - 30 - 36! Thats a hoot. Even before WLS my chest was not a 42! Might make my hisband happy though! I still have many inches to go in the waist and hip area to make these measurements! Thanks for sharing the website though. It was at least good for a laugh!

That is great! Hopefully for me, on days even when the scale doesn't move maybe my body measurements still are!

You have no idea how I needed this post.  I have been avoiding this subject totally.  I am only in my 5th month and I only dropped 7 pounds the WHOLE month of June.   I swear I am doing everything I am supposed to do.  have jumped around  between 197 and 200 for the past few days, depending on what time of the day I get on the scale.

this is the most frustrating thing to me.  I know from reading the posts of others that this happens, but I am so afraid that I have stopped losing at this early stage.  I know in my heart this can't be true, but what the heck?

I am trying not to be a whiner and to be as positive as I can, but this really sucks.

I will have to say that i put on a new outfit tonight in a size 16 and if I may say so myself.  I looked HOT!  i feel so good about my progress, but the scale is not cooperating with me just now.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.   If I am not moving the scale soon, I'm going to jump out of a moving car@!   LOL.........Thanks for listning and thanks that you reminded me that it happens to everyone......but why so early in the process.  I really dont understand!

Cathy, my entry was dated April 2007.  My surgery was Oct 2006.  That meant that I hit a stall within 6 months...  so it does happen!  Just keep doing what you know to do...  stick to the rules...  get out those tape measures and take the measurements...  like I always say:  "When the scales doesn't move, the tape measure always does!"

You have been such a success story Melinda. I hope in a few years I can look back and see as great of results that you have been able to achieve and maintain.
