Update on Ron and me

Hi all,
Sorry I don't post much.  I put a sentence on facebook everyday or two but usually that is all I have time to do.  Ron is still at UT.  He got 2 abcesses in his abdomen and required 2 drains and IV antibiotics.  So far he is not responding to the antibiotics with his white blood cell count climbing every day and infectious disease has been called in.  This afternoon I think he is looking better (said with cautious optimism).  He will have another CT scan of his abdomen either tomorrow or Thursday to see if he is beginning to heal or if he requires further surgery.   He is much more alert now.  He is able to turn himself in the bed with minimal help and today he walked with a walker and an assisant some which was a HUGE accomplishment!  So I guess I would say he is still in a grave situation but at the same time making physical progress.

I on the other hand, suck!  But, I will have to deal with my issues at another time.  I will have to deal with stress eating and not getting in enough water.  I will get back to my therapist as soon as possible, but it just isn't possible right now.  Ron is my priority and that is where it has to be for now.  I am working on getting in my vitamins and getting in enough protein so I don't get sick, but the rest will just have to wait.  There is only so much stress that I can handle right now.  If that sounds like a cop out, maybe it is.  But before you jump down my throat, walk a mile in my shoes.  No, I wouldn't want anyone to do that, just walk a few feet.  I will get back on track, but I can't do it right now.  I don't have it in me.  I am exhausted, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

You surely have been through a lot... more than ALOT, but a huge pile of ALOT!  I don't know how you have done it.  We are all hoping that Ron recovers 100%, and very soon too...  I'm glad to hear that you are taking your vitamins and working on getting your protein.  These are very important...  that way you won't end up sick too and in the hospital.  I remember once when a strong wls friend of mine told me how she had stopped taking her vitamins when her dad was sick, and she ended up in the hospital...  and she was one of those NEVER miss her vitamin kind of gals, but it just took one 6 week stint away from her house and she was completely tired, thrown out of routine, etc...
Hang in there, sis!

You are both in my prayers.   I know how hard it is to stay healthy when you have someone sick in hospital.     I'm glad that you're mindful of your own needs even though Ron has to be your priority.

No jumping from me!   Just a gentle reminder :   remember how they teach you in nursing school?   You need to see to your own needs as well.   Another bad analogy - the flight attendant tells you to put your own oxygen mask on first if they come down, before you help anybody with his or hers.   I know.   it doesn't seem possible, when it's your own family.

Isa 40 says to wait on the Lord and he will renew your strength. Marilyn you and Ron have been on my Church's Prayer list for some time now. God through prayer will hold you up and give you strength beyond all knowledge. I pray for each of you and your Doctors each day. I told you before that you and Ron are two very special friends. I am only a phone call away and I can have some special friends beside you sooner if needed.

Love you both,
Phil and Cheryl

It's been said God doesn't give you more then you can handle. During times like this you wonder if he has the couple. Keep your chin up tell Ron we're all thinking of him. Please take care of yourself!
God Bless
