1 month post op visit tomorrow

I have my one month post op visit with my surgeon tomorrow, I don't weigh at home, so I will find out tomorrow how much I've lost.  I have been back in the hospital for an unrelated event, and am due to anemia and rhumatoid arthritis, I haven't been exercising too much.

My question is, I've been cleared for pureed foods since my 2 wk checkup, but I hardly ever want food.  I am much happier with my protein drinks (nectar- cherry mmmmm), and protein coffee, some cottage cheese or yogurt once a day.  Egg salad is the only thing that even tastes good, so I have that every few days or so.  Is this a problem that I'm not "eating"?  or is it normal to not really want "food" this early out.

I tried chicken, it didn't make me sick, it just didn't taste good, so I didn't want it.  I am getting 70+grams of protein a day and at least 64oz of fluid.

I just wonder if it is normal not to be hungry?  I read all these new post ops eating all kinds of stuff, and I just don't want it......I just wanna be sure I'm not doing any damage by not eating....

Thanks for your input in adavance...
Jamie

Yes, its very normal not to want food. I get "head hungry" a couple of times a day, but small amounts of food satisfy me now. Hunger may or may not return a few months (or few years) down the road, but you will always have your "new tool" to help you lose and maintain your new weight.

Even though you are not hungry for food, get in your daily protein and water. Protein shakes are a good supplement, but don't live off of liquid protein.

Good luck on the weigh in and keep us posted!

It is normal to not want food or not be hungry. But, make sure you still get your 3 meals in a day even though they seem small. Your body will think you are really starving it and that's not good... you will have to make yourself eat.

Thanks to both of you, I appreciate your advice.  I will make an honest effort to try to get my 3 meals a day...  I will start with lunch today!!

I read this board all the time, and knew I could count on the great people here to have solid advice and know what they are talking about.

I was the same way. Still am. I'm 13 months out and could care less about eating most of the time.  And I like it that way. I usually manage to get in about 2 "meals" a day - basically about 4 oz. of protein at lunch and dinner. Occasionally, I'll get 3 "meals" in some days. Otherwise, I just drink my protein shakes and eat some jerky and am totally satisfied. Im getting in around 100 - 120 grams of protein a day from tuna, chicken, turkey and the protein shake, and I'm doing great.  Everyone is different, so listen to your body. Just try to follow the rules they gave you, but also use your common sense. Just my $.02!

Well, I had my appointment....4 wk checkup... I have lost 19pounds!!!  They said they like for their patients to lose 17% of excess weight in the first month and I am at 16.9% lost, so I think that is pretty darn close.

They scheduled me for an ultrasound on Monday, the pain I have been having in my right side, they think may be Galbladder related..  So I'm not excited about that idea, but I will have the tests on Monday.

We (myself and Kelly, the exercise physiologist) have planned out an exercise schedule, mostly in the pool at the gym due to my Rhumatiod Arthritis...I'm looking forward to that, I stopped and got an aqua-belt to do the exercises in the pool.

Thanks to everyone here for being so supportive, you all are wonderful sources for information.

Thanks again,
Jamie
