when will i be able to drink a diet coke
This is worrisome to me because you are only 3 weeks out. I had surgery 8 weeks ago and my appetite and 'cravings' for my favorite foods are now gone.
I also 'tested the waters' to see what I could and could not eat without dumping, but the things I experimented with were protein bars or soy chips - not fried foods and soft drinks.
I got my hand slapped when I strayed, and I'll repeat to you what I was told -- paying attention?
***Use the 12-18 months honeymoon period to your full advantage to shed yourself of your excess weight! Right now, your pouch is tiny and you have optimal hunger and craving control. This is a lifestyle change and you need to learn new (healthier) eating habits. Your pouch is valuable real estate and you want to fill it with good proteins and not grease and diet coke.
I need to give you some tough love - you need to get things right in your head. Although you should have done this before ever having the surgery, if you are already falling off the wagon after 3 short weeks, that is not a good sign that you will have optimal success.
Have a funeral for some of your old friends - soft drinks, sugar desserts, high carb foods. They need to be gone from your life for good and the sooner you accept this, the better off you will be.
Let us all know if we can help you as you progess on your journey.

Sorry folks - I was gonna let this one go, but then decided to throw in my $.02.
What the h*ll are you thinking? 3 weeks out and you're eating fried food, pizza, and you're also wanting to suck down a Coke? Give me a break! I'm surprised you haven't blown your innards completely out already. WLS is a major surgery and your body is not even healed yet, but you're putting that kind of junk in it? Sheeeeeshhh!! This is totally insane and moronic! Unless you want to fail completely, or worse, maybe permanently damage yourself, I'd suggest you get back to the plan and stay with it. Otherwise, you wasted your time on the surgery. Better find yourself a support group fast.
OK - so I didn't sugarcoat it, but that's what I think about this.

Well said, folks.
I am one of those folks who doesn't dump ....
but I also chose NOT to the test bounderies too far either. I have not had a carbonated drink in 2 years since my surgery and didn't even remotely try to do anything on the "restricted" list until I was well over 6 month out from surgery. Even now, those are special things -- not regular foods. I want/wanted my WLS to work.... if you do too, I think you might need to take what you are being told seriously.
