Question about Calcium Citrate

Ok... so the worst part of this whole journey is not the eating small portions of food, it's not the having to drink small sips of water throughout the day to get in at least 64 oz, it's....

.... having to take Calcium Citrate every few hours!

I've learned:
1. You can't take Calcium Citrate with your multivitamins in the morning
2. You can't take it all at once to get in your daily doseage
3. It's absorbs a little at a time so it has to be 'timed' throughout the day
4. You have to take 1,000 to 1,8000 mg's per day - which could mean up to 7 or 8 chewables per day!
5. It's more difficult to find in stores, you have to take alot of it, and it's not cheap

SO... having said all of this-- is there a "less painful" way of getting my Calcium Citrate in? I've tried the Chewable Tablets, I've tried the Chocolate Chews.

Is there a "higher doseage" chewable that anyone has found so I can cut down the number of pills I need to remember to take? Has anyone found a inexpensive supplier of Calcium Citrate?
I think I have spent close to $40 this month and gone through (3) bottles- JUST to meet my Calcium needs.

Help! (and thank you!)

I use the Bariatric Advantage chewables and take them on Susan Maria's recommended schedule.

1 with breakfast, lunch & dinner and 1 before bed

I just use the Celebrate brand Calcium plus 500 chewables.  They come in berries and cream flavor and they aren't nasty at all.  I take 3 per day.  Here's the link

At the beginning I took the chewables, the Bariatric Advange Brand (still have about 2months left in one bottle).

One day I took one and it just made me gag!  I did not take any for about a week, then I needed to start taking them again.

I bought the Calcium Citrate from CVS.  Just the "large" pills that you swallow whole.  They are 600mg per pill.  I take two per day (trying to increase to 3 a day based on recent research).

I don't have any issues with swallowing the pills.  I take one at breakfast, and one at lunch (trying to get the 3rd one in, in the afternoon.)

You may want to try the whole pills, you might be ok with them now at this time in your weight loss journey.

Thanks Michael. I still have that box of wafer protein bars (vanilla) if you want them. Maybe we can do a swap for the chewable calcium that you no longer like.

Hi Steve!

I feel your pain.  I too have had issues with getting all of my calcium in so...with that in mind, I use a combination of products from Bariatric Advantage and over the counter.

Each morning I mix a scoop of Bariatric Advantage Calcium Crystals with my Crystal Light.  That takes care of a third of my daily requirement.  No pain!

Then at lunch I have a cinnamon lozenge (also Bariatric Advantage.)

On the way home I have two chocolate chews.

If I just can't stomach any of the above, I use Citracal (2 caplets = 630 mg) so I take four thoughout the day.

I enjoy the variety.  I heard that the Corner Pharmacy will be selling Bariatric Advantage vitamins in the near future.  Thanks goes to our own darlin' Paula.

Good Luck!
Freddie

Just to add to Freddie's post...  The Corner Pharmacy is at Baptist right across the street from Plaza I, and the Metabolic Surgery Center is.

It is right on Church street, kinda under the cross walk that goes over Church street.

I hope that I did not confuse anyone!

Michael.

PS - Freddie do you get unwanted "effects" from those new chewables? LOL!

Definitely keep up posted when they start to see BA vitamins. I'm guessing that will save us on some of the shipping costs.

You can buy BA vitamins at the Vanderbilt One Hundred Oaks pharmacy, which is just down from the SWL Center there. Definitely cheaper than ordering and having them shipped, until some of the other places sell them as well.
