Questions for Dr. Houston's RNYers
Hello,
I have my first appt w/Dr. Houston on July 15 but I have questions and am too anxious to wait. Please answer the following general questions from your experience. Thanks
1. What was the time assigned to each phase of diet progression (clear, full, pureed, soft, regular).
2. Did you keep your gallbladder or was it removed during RNY?
3. Did you have a drain?
4. What supplements and what dosages are you on?
5. Do you think they would give me the Gastric Bypass Owners Manual before my appt with him on July 15?

answers to #s 1, 4, 5 are all here in this link. I have the manual on my website. They have updated it however, and yes I am sure they would provide you a manual.

Hello, thought I would give you the "official" answers, although I really encourage everyone to give their experiences too.
1. Clear - 1week, Full - 1 week, we don't do pureed, soft (you can ma**** with the back of a fork) - 2 -6 weeks depending on how well you tolerate it, regular - forever after surgery.
2. Dr. Houston does not routinely remove the gallbladder with the RNY.
3. Dr. Houston does not routinely place a drain with RNY.
4. Vitamin doses vary by your needs: multi-vitamin, calcium citrate 1800 mg, B-12 1000 mcg taken either weekly sublingual or nasal spray or injection monthly, omega 3 supplement if you do not eat 3 servings of tuna/salmon/other fatty fish per week. Iron if needed, but not routinely given to everyone.
5. Please just call Holly's office and ask for it. I would send you one myself, but I'm in Phoenix till Friday, and will be in Dallas all next week.
Thanks!
