Sorry about my opinion of Fast Food

Hi all,

Just wanted to post and say that I'm sorry to any one that may have been "put off" by my strong opinion of fast food restaurants.  Sometimes I get really "strong" with my words.

For me personally, I have found that I got fat by eatting this type of food.  Our whole country is getting bigger because of this food.

it is O****asionally, but I know that i would sometimes eat at a fast food place sometimes for all my meals in a day.  I know that myself, I may not be able to control myself, and with the quality of food that is served, it is questionable in the nutritional value and extra added hidden ingredients.

Did anyone know that a salad at McDonalds and Jack in the Box have more calories and fat then their own cheeseburger??!!

We are "taught" that salad is good.  But some are not.  Samething with vegis.  If you take a zuccini and eat it, it is great for you, very little calories, good fiber, etc.  But then deep fry it, it is not the same!!  But you all know that.

We all got fat for one reason or another.  Me it was eatting the wrong kinds of food and too much.  Also not getting active.

Also I'm the kind of person that wants everyone to be successful.  I know that I spent alot of money, time and mental preperation for my surgery, and I know the rest of you have also.  Why would you want to sabatosh that.

I would rather have home made wings that I have control over the preparation then something that is deep fried, and with possible added sugar, fat, calories, etc.

I have learned ALOT, but I know that I'm not done learning about this journey.  New things will happen and things change.  We need to stay open to these changes.

Remember:
"Nothing tastes as good as thin feels"

Again sorry if I offended anyone.

Michael, no need to apologize!  You are right, we all got off the straight & narrow somehow...  and isn't it funny, that for one person it is a certain thing, and to another its something entirely different!

I know what my triggers are...  someone might say "hey, make this sugar free dessert at home" and I say NO WAY JOSE!  ARE YOU TRYING TO GET ME FAT AGAIN?  And they may not understand that's my trigger....

One thing I am still learning.  All of this is a process.  Sometimes we learn best by our mistakes.  Other times, we learn from others' mistakes....

Oh and Michael, I think you've probably seen by now, we all have some pretty strong opinions! LOL, LOL

I decided to print out the nutritional info from Mcd's website, and find me a 100 calorie or less meal. I think I found the perfect one consisting of a dairy and a vegetable. And they are, drumroll please...

1. Ketcup packet - 15 calories
2. a side salad - 20 calories
3. Whipped margarine - 40 calories

That leaves 25 calories left so if you aren't full and want dessert, you could either get another packet of ketchup, or a side salad.

Michael:

I appreciate your willingness to share your personal trials and tribulations!  I agree with you about fast food.  It is difficult to fight those battles over and over again.  As we pregress through this journey each of us will find his/her trigger.  If it is fast food...we just have to say no!

I know that I am addicted to sugar but I did not know that I was such a bulk eater!  I used to love to sit down in front of the tv with a huge bowl of popcorn and just mindlessly stuff my face until the end of the movie.  Now...I find that I am attracted to "slider" foods which would allow me to do the same thing.  I am making a conscious effort to eat dense protein and follow my rules for life.  It isn't easy but then again...I knew what I was getting into when I hopped on the table to get my insides rearranged.

It is so important to continue with support groups so that when we face challenges in our journey, we have knowing, loving peeps to lend a swift kick in the butt.

Michael,

No need to apologize. We are all sharing our own views and opinions in the spirit of trying to help one another. You made a valid argument and I appreciate your posting and input.

We will all make mistakes (even once we are a few years out) and my personal belief is that I still want to live life, but I now have to avoid some foods and eat others in "moderation". Fortunately, I have enough self control to take a bite or two of something and then put it down completely.

By the way... I think those Jack in the Box chicken strips weren't too friendly in my pouch. I woke up with some cramping so not sure if those were the culprit it not. Having said that, fast food can be OK in some limited situations where you aren't able to go home and cook or sit down and eat at a restaurant. Of course, it's much harder because the options are so limited finding something that is grilled, has no breading, and is high in protein and low in carbs.

One time Tim came to work and picked me up for an appt. While we were out, we were running late and you know how I am with food... I HAVE to eat lunch or else I get really moody.  So I said, "Well pull into that Sonic" and I ordered a kids burger, and I had three of his fries. And by the time we turned onto my work's street, I said, "Can you step on it?"  Yes, I had to run inside because it caused the same reaction as those Jack N the Box tenders.....

Grease can really do a number on us....  sometimes, it can cause dumping too.

You didn't offend anyone, I don't think...I think it's smart to know your triggers....I think Freddie hit the bullseye with the idea of "slider" foods ...as I know I will have to watch the salty/crunchie kind of graising.    Still holding firmly on the scales but know it's important for each of us to identify  our triggers.  Carbs -- another trigger I have to keep a watch.

...and btw, so I know what I'm getting...it's not a bad idea to identify "good" ...well relatively good choices so when you have to go the fast food route that you don't derail your results too badly.  That and keeping a protein bar handy.  I also find that good choices and limited pouch space make a good combination.
