Dr. Houston is great.   I had my DS with him on 2/24 and could not be happier.   I know he is not on the list of surgeons at DSFACTS.COM but he knows how to do the DS and his DS family is quickly growing.  Centennial was great, the nursing staff was very attentive.    I really have nothing bad at all to say about Dr. Houston or Centennial - well maybe that I did not like my night nurse .   Feel free to PM me if you want any more info.

Centennial called about my hospital experience with a satisfaction survey.  One of the things I complained about was that half the nurses did not tell me their names or write it on the board in my room.  If I did know their names, I might have named them as bad.  The good ones that gave their names got compliments.  Maybe that's why the bad ones didn't give me their names...

I just had my DS on June 2, I am having a simple recovery,
compared to alot of people I have read about. I am very
and was completely confident in my chose of surgeons. He
listened to everything I had to say, and he customized my
DS for me.

Centennial staff are great, great aftercare.

What John  & Ronda said!  I had an initial problem with Dr. Houston because he is a little too possessive about his patients & he wasn't crazy about me seeing my PCP.  However, seeing the labs my PCP ordered, he has a new attitude.  LOL  Dr. Houston does consider you his patient for life.  In reality, that is not so bad.  He really cares about his patients. He will support your choice and carry you through rough times, not just slice & dice you then send you on your way.  Holly and Elizabeth are in his office; both super.  The dietitians are really helpful as well.  Like John, I had a couple of nurses at the hospital who weren't exactly Little Miss Sunshine, but it wasn't that big of a problem.  I'd recommend Dr. Houston & Centennial to anyone in a heartbeat.

ETA:  There are four of Dr. Houston's patients at where I work.  Three had the RNY; I had the DS.  We all really like him.  We all agree he is that he definitely has an air of confidence about him that to some might be irritating or maybe even arrogant.  But would you really want a surgeon who wasn't confident in what he was doing?  Two are nurses, one is a sleep study technician and I work in Medical Records.  Surgeons in general tend to be a little more "God-like" than Family Practice docs.   But as I said, I don't want someone cutting on me who isn't sure of what he's doing.

I am a big fan of Dr. Houston's.  I had RNY with him on March 17, 2009, & any follow up care I have needed has been both thorough & attentive.  He is an excellent surgeon & I would not hesitate to move forward with him as my doc.

Centennial is an amazing place to have your WLS....there is no shortage of resources to make sure that your ever-important decision to have WLS is positive & life-changing.

Good luck!  Micheala.

I am also looking at Dr Houston for a DS, I'm going to the seminar on the 27th.

I'm curious about how out of state patients are handled both pre and post op. I can drive up there for things but it is a 4-5 hour drive, would prefer to do as much on the phone or online as possible.

And now I understand there may be money to pay the surgeon in addition to my co-pay for the whole thing... I have Aetna HMO and all they've said was $300 co-pay. I'm hoping it's just that easy considering all the stuff my husband is getting from them for free = glucose meter, maybe the test strips, free blood pressure cuff, etc.

Another thing is stomach size and CC length, does he have a standard he likes to stick to, or Hess method or ...?

Seems like several people here have had a DS with him, curious about how many he's done and for how long, wondering how well their weight loss has gone. I've heard pretty good things about patients doing pretty well right after the surgery.

Dr. Houston used a french 38 bougie on my stomach and
my common channel is 125. I talked alot about my cc with
him but, he really wants to know that you totally understand
what the DS surgery involves. The vits you need to take and will be there for you all the way.

I love Dr. Houston he gave me the surgery I wanted and I am good and I am only 2 weeks out.
