Did you miss me?
I am home!! No complications thank God. If you want to know how it went here is my play by play...
Monday we arrived at the hospital at 9:00 am (a half hour before we were told to be there). I was the second surgery for Dr. Dyer that day. About 20 minutes later we were taken back to a room to wait and do the paperwork. Finally at about 1:30 pm they came to take me to staging (I found out why they were late later). So they wheel me back to staging where the anesthesiologist poked me over and over because I have very poor veins, this is not new news to me and usually doesn't bother me but he kept "sawing" into the side of my wrist until is was bleeding pretty bad so he moved on the back of my hand. Of course I was numbed first so it sounds more pain then it was. He decided I needed the neck catheter (which they don't do on everyone only if you were blessed with poor veins like me). So they wheel me back to the OR room where I see the Dr. and after he made a joke (yes I remember what the joke was, but some might think it in poor taste so I wont repeat it, although it didn't bother me), but I told him my husband asked me to ask him if he could turn me into a Stepford wife, I don't recall his response the next thing I remember was being wheeled down a hall to my room and seeing my husband walk out of it.. I don't remember recovery at all! I laid there amazed at how I didn't have any pain. I thought this was a piece of cake! A little while later it was time to walk. I started to sit up and thought "OH MY FREAKING GOD WHAT DID I DO??" My stomach muscles the ones you only use to stand or sit up from laying down were so painful. Like someone had just cut into me! can you believe it??!! My husband was planning to leave me that night alone (originally I was fine with that) but I actually begged him to call our neighbor who was watching our daughter to keep her over night so he could stay with me. I could not turn to raise and lower the bed without pain, let alone get up and get the swabs wet because of the horrible cotton month.
They placed the morphine button in my had and I hit it every 15 minutes. It wasn't doing what it should It was wearing off far to quickly so they called the Dr and he oked moving to to every 10 minutes. He was my new favorite person. No the morphine did not take the pain away, but I didn't care about it as much at all and it made me sleepy.
On Tuesday my husband left to go clean up and eat and get my daughter to day care. Then he spent most of the day with me while I tried to eat jello and drink crystal light. I was pretty scared to eat or drink. I had so much pain from the other stuff I was worried I wouldn't feel when i was full and needed to stop so it took me forever to eat or drink anything so i wouldn't over do it. And then my Nurse )who I loved to this point) brought me a cup of blue liquid. Looked like blue poweraid, but as you were told when you were younger never judge a book by it's cover! I took one sip and this was like drinking straight food coloring! Since Dr Dyer puts drain tubes in all his patients blue is the only color your body does not make naturally so if you have a leak you would see the blue color in the drain tube. Well the nurse advised I had to drink it all in an hour. UGH! But I did it like a good patient I am. And I walked walked walked. Sipped sipped sipped. My 15 year old son stayed with me that night to help me when I had to use the restroom and get up. And although I did not say it out loud I was wondering why I did this to myself. This was a choice that I made and thought if it doesn't get better soon I would regret it.
Wednesday was much better. Walking getting up everything was better. Still had pain, but not as bad. My husband came and spent the day with me after he took my son home. I had to drink more Blue stuff oh and I got to have a suppository! Which gave me cramps! They took my morphine away and i tried to stick it out without using pain meds until I couldnt stand it anymore and gave in. I was so glad i did they were wonderful! Dr. Dyer saw me that morning and said I would probably be released the next day.
Thursday I was released about 11ish.
So every few hours I had blood pressure taken or blood drawn or my fingers poked or had to pee or temp taken and got hardly any sleep,. but I am home now and hope for a speedy painless recovery.
Sitting up is certainly not the comfortable position and my lower back is killing me from sleeping on my back. So lord i hop[e it is better here.
So here is my question... how will I know I feel full when all I feel is the pain in the abdomen?
I am sip sip sipping then waiting like 10 minutes and starting over, but I need to get some protein in too. My son made some protein jello for me :)
Thanks to everyone for your well wishes.

Did you have any lower back pain? I told the nurse about it this morning and she thought it was probably due to the bed. I am not a back sleeper so to ave to stay in the position was pretty hard. I thought maybe it was gas since I haven't been able to pass any and as soon as she gave me the suppositories I felt gas forming shortly after. I came home and have had a heating pad on it and it still is really painful. It used to be on both sides and now its just on my lower left. I just don't want to put it off if it could be kidney problems.
Thanks
Sher
Thanks

I'm not a person that sleeps on their back either. It has been really hard ,but when I got my drain out on Thurs, I
slept on my side. My back just felt sore. Not really pain. I
would see and then call my doctor. Sorry it took so long for
me to get back. Take care.

Glad you're home and doing well, Sher! I enjoyed the play by play! It's good to write it down because you forget that stuff so quickly!
I have hard to find veins, but thank goodness I didn't have to have a neck catheter! Blech! I'm glad all that is over and it's just you at home healing . . . with those lovely drains.
I'm a side/stomach sleeper and was so thrilled when I finally found I was able to sleep normally again. Ahhhhh. It took a few weeks, but it was worth the wait. Until then I used a wedge pillow, which made back sleeping much more tolerable.
Welcome to the losers bench and I can't wait to hear more about your new life adventures!
HUGS!!!

Sorry it took me so long to respond but I have been a little under the weather. I am so glad your home. Each day will get better and better. I still have rough days but they are few and far between. You will do great. Dr. Olsen didnt put any drains in me but I am sure he had his reasons, but the neck cath didnt bother me better than being poked ever couple of hours lol. I am so glad you are done with your surgery and are now on the losers bench!!! Keep us informed on your progress.
